    GravatarWhere was the option:

"I loathe UI design, but sometimes they make me do CSS"? ;)

GravatarThe statement about Silverlight/WPF etc making great UI design possible is mis-leading. Good UI is possible with any technology; equally bad UI is possible with any technology. Arguably, bad UI is much easier with the newer tools, because anyone can sit down and throw together complete rubbish with no understanding.

About 10 years ago, I took time out from development to go learn about UI - it's fascinating. Now I spend as much time understanding UI as I do understanding code.
A good UI requires many skills: aesthetics, psychology and technology.

Sadly there are some rubbish UI designers out there - beware anyone who does all their UI design in flash or believes that everything out of Apple is good (some is, not all). Unfortunately this describes 90% of the UI designers.

Worst of all are those who think their latest web-site translates to desktop applications or gadgets (TV, phones, or embedded devices).

It is an important area, one that is all too often overlooked.
