Even though the email server I'm running at home only sends and receives around 10 emails per month and has never been open for relay, it seems as though Comcast has started blocking port 25.  The technician I've chatted with says otherwise, but either he was wrong or not telling the truth.  I'm just putting that out there in case others have the same problem.

The port 25 block happens based on unusual activity. Try changing the outgoing port to 587 with secured authentication.

Sorry for the trouble

Thanks, but outgoing works fine, it's only incoming that can't get through. Does that make any sense?

Mark, sorry to rain on your parade but the blocking is NOT based on unusual activity. Comcast told me they were blocking everyone and it was just my turn to be blocked. (Apr 7th, 09) My wish was that Comcast would have notified me BEFORE blocking so I could contact my other email providers and get alternate (if possible) ports to use.

As it was, and still is in some cases, I could not reply to any of my Business mail. And in two cases my business mail is basically shot to hell because Comcast IS blocking port 25 and I have no alternative port to use. Thanks!

Lastly, your tech support appeared to be totally clueless about the port re-assignments and what to do with my outside mail providers. That is not very good for customer relations. Just Google comcast port 25 and you'll get an earfull from other people with the same problem.

Still spitting mad in Massachusetts,
Doug

Thank you Doug. Sorry you're in the same boat. There was no unusual activity coming from my server either. I'll probably be switching to FIOS or satellite as soon as I can.
