Windows Vista
I guess that we could somehow expect that are going to be a lot of issues trying to run existing products on Microsoft's latest Windows platform. So far I have tested 3 online banking solutions offered in Belgium and so far there was only 1 of them that works flawlessly in Windows Vista. So like I mentioned I tested 3 online banking solutions:KBC OnlineDexia Direct NetFortis PC Banking1. KBC OnlineWith KBC Online I tried to import an existing key and that's where the problem start. Under normal...
According to this article in the Seatlle PI, the launch date for Windows Vista and the 2007 Office System is set to 30th November. I don't know if you recall the guess the launch date contest of a couple of months ago but as I recall it this is the date I have given, actually I played two times one date I gave was the last day of November based on the fact that in the history a lot of releases have been done end November and the second estimation was 15th January based on the fact that I read...
As already mentioned by Gill 'Snowball' Cleeren on his blog here, Microsoft should release Windows Vista RC1 tomorrow (Friday) and the download link has already leaked (but it wasn't too difficult to get it) on wednesday but it has been taken offline by Microsoft:http://download.w... don't expect it this week because it hasn't leaked yet and normally the ISO images leak several days before the official download links. Somasegar posted some details on his blog concerning Vista support for different versions of the Visual Studio IDE's. Remarkable is that Visual Studio .NET 2003 will NOT be supported on Windows Vista. If I had a "Weekly WTF" section on my blog this would definitely be the WTF of the week!Source: http://blogs.msdn.com/somas... Cross-posted from The .NET Aficionado...
I have been playing around with the latest Windows Vista builds and I have written an article on the ActiveX Installer Service but I am not able to complete the article because apparently it doesn't work yet. My guess is that the problem lies within Internet Explorer as it needs some adjustments to work correctly with the ActiveX Installer Service. I really hope that this feature makes RC1 but chances are odd. What is the ActiveX Installer Service in a nutshell? Everytime Internet Explorer needs...
Microsoft, it is time to call a plumber! After the leaking of the prices for the retail versions of Windows Vista it seems now that build 5552 which is the RC1 build is being widely spread on the world wide web as we speak. Normally this build should undergo some testing to make sure it is ready to be made publicly available but apparently somebody couldn't wait to let the world enjoy Vista. It started with Microsoft Canada leaking the prices on the internet (by accident) including the launch date of 30th January 2007. Robert McLaws from Longhornblogs has summarized it and converted it to US Dollar:EditionRegular PriceAdditional LicenseUpgrade PriceAdditional LicenseUltimate$399.00$359.... Premium$239.00$215.00$159.0... Basic$199.00$179.00$99.95$8... one acronym: OMFG!!!! Cross-posted from The .NET Aficionado...
Microsoft has made Windows Vista Pre-RC1 available for download for free. This is offer is limited to the first 100,000 downloaders so you must be fast. Thanks to Gill Cleeren for keeping me up-to-date.Here is the download link:http://download.window... Cross-posted from The .NET Aficionado...
After being so frustrated about the previous Windows Vista build I decided to give the Pre-RC1 build (build # 5536) another shot especially after reading so many positive comments on many blogs considering the performance of Microsoft newest Windows platform. I wish that I could say that Windows Vista rocks but instead I got even more frustrated about it than before. First of all the installation was indeed pretty fast. From inserting the DVD to the first real boot of Windows it took about 20 minutes,...
According to an article on BetaNews you will never ever be able to play HD-DVD or BluRay movies on a Windows Vista 32-bit edition. The reason is simple: in the 32-bit editions of Vista it is possible to install unsigned drivers at the Kernel level and this could allow a smart developer to create a workaround to copy these protected movies. In the 64-bit edition of Vista every driver has to be signed. This is imho a stupid move of Microsoft because I estimate that it will take less than 2 weeks after...
