I got invited by email to the Windows Live OneCare v1.5 Beta program. I was actually planning to give Windows Vista another shot especially because I have read so many positive notes on the second Release Candidate. So I downloaded the x64 edition of Windows Vista RC2 and the first thing I will need is a good anti-virus proggie. I was glad to read the following line in the invitation email:
Welke besturingssystemen worden ondersteund?
Windows XP SP2 of Windows Vista (build 5500 of later; build 5600 oftewel RC1 wordt aanbevolen).
Translated the above reads:
Which operating systems are supported?
Windows XP SP2 or Windows Vista (build 5500 or later; build 5600 or RC1 is recommended).
Then back was the disappointed when I read the next sentence:
OneCare is momenteel niet beschikbaar voor x64 besturingssystemen
Translated to English:
OneCare is momenteraly not supported on x64 operating systems
So my TrendMicro PC-Cilin Intenet Security license is worthless since it doesn't run on x64 Windows platform. I replaced my US Robotics WiFi PCI card by an external version because of the lack of drivers. I also had to replace my HP LaserJet 1015 printer by a newer one that I could actually use to print from within x64 Windows. Several other software just won't install on Windows x64 and now this? I thought that we would by now live in the era of 64 bit computing. Well I guess not. Just another reminder on how stupid I was in not buying a $500 PC instead of a high-end performance machine.
