VMware Workstation v5.5 + Windows Vista RC1 anyone?

Has anyone tried and succeeded in installing Windows Vista RC1 in VMware Workstation v5.5? I have tried several different combinations, choosing custom types, 384MB, 512MB, 1024MB RAM and so on but for some reason the installation stops at the screen with the progress bar on the bottom and the caption "Windows is loading files...":

Sure I could just switch to Virtual PC or another virtualization software but if you have a VMware Workstation license you want this to work too in VMware Workstation don't you?

Update:

From the release notes of VMware Workstation 5.5.2:

Microsoft Windows Vista Beta Build CTP 5472 Cannot Be Installed as a Guest Operating System in a Workstation 5.5.2 Virtual Machine. When you attempt to install Microsoft Windows Vista Beta Build CTP 5472 in a Workstation 5.5.2 virtual machine, the virtual machine hangs as the installation completes the phase Windows is loading files. Work is in progress on this problem.

DOH!

Update 2:

Apparently the correct screens are loaded after the progress bar but for some reason there are issues displaying the screens as the screen does not refresh. So I have read on the VMware fora that there is a Stevie Wonder procedure to perform a blind install of Windows Vista RC1. Ridiculous. The purpose is that you have the hit the correct key sequences on the correct screens without knowing which screen you are one. Than in the end you need to blindly install the VMware additions to be able to get some display. This seems to be an issue in Vista, I wonder if the Microsofties did this one on purpose

Gravatar I have cme across many postings and followed their advice and it worked for me pretty good:

add the following lines in the VMX file
svga.maxWidth = "640"
svga.maxHeight = "480"

After Installtion, remove those lines and install VMWare Tools 9/20/2006 9:27 PM | The Guru
