I think due to works being in digital format, copyright law and digital right’s inventions will be created to protect work product to ensure payment for work. Laws will change to protect, not necessarily from piracy theft, but from companies infringing on work product by detecting that infringement usage and the inventor(s being made aware of the activity.
I realize some patent claims are from prior art and can’t be patented realistically such as the curve of a device that Apple seems to claim they invented curves as applied to electronic devices. That’s taking common sense and infringing on general rights. One of the reasons I don’t own an apple computer.
Microsoft makes patents more to protect itself from lawsuits that other patent trolls try to push because of how the “invent” stuff of which most shouldn’t be patentable, but some paid off judge says it is.
I think we will see inventions of this protective nature flare up over the course of the next few years.
