BOSTON! Why is TechEd 2006 here?

I thought that Boston would be a cool city to have TechEd in, but alas, it is disappointing. The Convention Center is quite a bit out of the city if you are walking. Taxis are expensive and the city around here seems quite dead. Hotels are expensive and the traffic in the morning is crazy. It took the bus 50 minutes to get 8 miles from the hotel to the convention center.

I've been to around 5 different TechEds and by far the best one I have been to was in Dallas. Dallas is a great city.

No kidding about the taxis... geez $20+ for just a few miles.

Think it must have been part of the Microsoft and Massachusetts settlement a couple of years back, but I don't know that to be a fact. That is the only reason I can come up with why Microsoft would host an event there ...

Yes, it is unfortunate that the largest convention center in Boston is also in the most desolate area of Boston (South Boston) after the Big Dig construction. The area looks much better than it did (that I can remember -- I have frequented this area that often in the 9+ years I have lived here). You do have to go in further into Boston to find things. But, guess what -- there is the Silver Line T stop right outside the convention center. It is $1.25 to ride it into South Station and from there you can get to almost any of the other subway locations from Park Street. It really does beat taking a cab, I think.

I heard the same comment that Tech Ed was put in Boston to help settle a lawsuit against MS. Most of the other states settled early but not MA.

So do you think we should have put our football stadium there instead? This idea got shot down by our mayor of boston.

I still prefer the Hynes Convention Center in Copley but I assume it is too small for TechEd.

I'm from just outside of boston and every time I have to travel into the city I regret it.

Hey Gary -- this feels small as it is (if you are used to what Orlando was like last year) -- Hynes would have had us walking on top of each other!
