"Would you like to play a game?"

Though I have no need for any telephony capabilities, I liked listening to all the computer created voices on this site as it reminded me of one of my favorite movies from the 80's!

When are they going to remake this great movie?!?!?

Introducing the Media Share Library Starter Kit!

The first article in a series I am doing for MSDN just came online. The ASP.NET Jumpstart series will run an ASP.NET hobbyist through the creation of their own application/starter kit. This first article, Introduction to the Media Share Library Starter Kit, is an introduction to the starter kit and runs you through installing and configuring the starter kit. ALSO, at the top of the page, you will notice that you can download the starter kit yourself to install on your machine.

To steal from myself, here is a brief description of the starter kit:

The Media Share Library Starter Kit enables you to easily create an application that allows registered users to present a collection of media items (such as movie DVDs, music CDs, books, and more) for other registered users to borrow. Users will be able to look through a library of items collectively held by the group using the application and request to borrow specific items from the registered owners of the items. The idea of the Media Share Library Starter Kit is to provide you with a framework that you can use to quickly organize a library collection that can be shared with a larger group of people.

This starter kit provides you with a series of pages that easily allow you to present and manage items in your library, as well as items that are on loan. Starting pages for this starter kit include a basic home page and login page for registered users. Also included in the starter kit are pages that allow you to view the group library, your personal library, as well as an alert page that warns you of items you have due to others or items that are due to you.

The idea is that you install this SK on a server at work, and then you and some of your co-worker friends can start sharing your media libraries with one another - a self-governed library system. Here is a screen shot of one of the starter kit's pages:

I have built this to run on RC1 of ASP.NET 2.0. If you encounter any issues (which I will fix) or if you make any enhancements, new themes/skins, etc., then let me know and I will host/promote them for you.

Enjoy and happy coding!
