I just got back from a business trip and sitting there on the counter was a copy of my latest book from Wrox! This book (my 20th) is titled Professional ASP.NET 3.5 AJAX. I’ve been playing around a bit with Google Chrome lately. I switched back to Microsoft’s Internet Explorer 8 as it answered a lot of the frustrations that I was having with Google Chrome (some key pages I like not rendering correctly). I blogged years ago and voiced my disappointment of Google taking books, scanning them, databasing the contents of the books, and then making these books available to end users in "chucks". Well, like most, I downloaded Google Chrome and gave it a whirl. So far, I like it. There are things that bother me - but overall - I like it. Here are some of my likes: It is faster. It does seem to deal with JavaScript quite a bit faster than other browsers. Pages load faster than before for me. This is probably the biggest plus of the whole thing really. John Wiley, Pearson, and some other publishers have come together to sue Google over Google Print - a service that is putting books online. The publishers are stating that this is a copyright infringement. As an author, I would tend to agree with the publishers here. You write all this content to be packaged as a book or sold as an e-book - not for Google to take and provide to the world for free. I really hope the publishers are successful in their endeavors...
It seems that Google has an interesting new feature that they are testing out. You type in what you are searching for in their search box and suggestions (like Intellisense) start appearing. Pretty cool. It is also interesting to see what the most popular searches are from this as it gives you the most popular matches to what you are typing.
