I just got back from a business trip and sitting there on the counter was a copy of my latest book from Wrox! This book (my 20th) is titled Professional ASP.NET 3.5 AJAX. I blogged years ago and voiced my disappointment of Google taking books, scanning them, databasing the contents of the books, and then making these books available to end users in "chucks". The new edition of the Wrox ASP.NET book is officially on the shelves today! Amazon received their shipment and it is now in stock for a CHEAP $34.64. My co-authors, Scott Hanselman and Devin Rader, revamped this book and added quite a number of new pages to deal with the new features from AJAX to IIS 7 to LINQ to this book. John Wiley, Pearson, and some other publishers have come together to sue Google over Google Print - a service that is putting books online. The publishers are stating that this is a copyright infringement. As an author, I would tend to agree with the publishers here. You write all this content to be packaged as a book or sold as an e-book - not for Google to take and provide to the world for free. I really hope the publishers are successful in their endeavors ......

Rob Howard, PM on the ASP.NET team, came to St. Louis last night for the ASP.NET Roadshow. It was an outstanding event and the St. Louis .NET User Group along with Microsoft got around 450 people there for the event. The event covered ASP.NET Basics, ASP.NET Tips and Tricks, ASP.NET Security and ASP.NET Whidbey. Our meeting was about 3 1/2 hours long. Poor Rob - he got in a car wreck before the event here in St. Louis. He was squished between two cars (the perpetrator being a cab) - and complained ......
I have done six .NET books all with the same editor. Today was her last day as she has decided to move onto less-stressful pastures than book acquisitions. I used to always joke in my house and say that I had two ladies that would boss me around in my life - my wife and my editor. All the best Sharon .... what am I going to do now?
