WinFS is going to be backported to Windows XP. I ask myself the question of how can the possible get the masses to upgrade to Longhorn. I will upgrade because I always will, I always want to be on the latest and greatest, but why should my Dad upgrade it Longhorn? What will it buy him?
Instead of back porting all of Longhorn into XP why not put the resources into finishing Longhorn. All I see if Microsoft spending a ton a cash and time (and as we all know time is money) on back porting the technology. If they focused their efforts on Longhorn they could get it out the door faster and possibly at less of a cost the consumer. I think they should focus on such an easy way to upgrade from XP to Longhorn that my Mother (aka can barely figure out email) can do it.
It early here and I might be missing something on the whole. Anyone have any thoughts? Anyone know what was the thinking behind the decision? I am always willing to listen to another point of view. I guess Microsoft's challenge is to convincing me to tell my family and friends that they should go out and get Longhorn when it is released, because as well all know our family and friends always call us when they need computer help.
