OMG MSDN and Virtual Server 2005 might not happen

For everyone waiting for Virtual Server to show up on MSDN do not hold your breath. I have just got off the phone with a Microsoft Representative of the MSDN site. I called to see when Virtual Server was going to show up on the download site. I was under the impression, as I am sure many of you were as well, that MSDN and the Virtual Server team where going to give the MSDN subscribers the ability to download the product off the MSDN site. Well guess what WRONG! As you can see here from an earlier post: http://geekswithblogs.net/evega/archive/2004/09/15/11214.aspx we should be getting it. I  have found out that as of right now they have no idea what they are going to do. They might charge us at a reduced rate, boo. Or they might just not give it to us.

I think it total BS that we pay so much money for our MSDN licenses and yet cannot get a Microsoft product. I could possibly understand that they would not let MSDN subscribers have a copy of the software if there was no API, but wrong there is one. And therefore I should be able to install the product and program for the product using the API.

Therefore I call to arms all MSDN subscribers. I ask all of you to call Microsoft MSDN ( 800-759-5474 ) and ask why this product is not on the MSDN site. I ask that your write about this topic on your blogs. If the community will rise up and make a stink about it maybe they will do something about it.

# It will happen.

They posted a while back that MSDN subscribers would not be getting Virtual Server 2005 in their subscriptions.

BUT, they said they would make a "promotional" offer beginning October 1st, during which current MSDN Enterprise and Universal subscribers will have access to Virtual Server 2005 via the MSDN Subscriber Downloads site.

http://msdn.microsoft.com/subscriptions/

On the bottom of that page there is an item pertaining to VS 2005. It states that the offer IS still going to happen, but that the posting of the download has been delayed slightly. However, there is no indication that the plan itself has changed.

Here is the contents of that post:
"10/5 Update for Virtual Server 2005

For those of you who were asking about the 10/1 date for the Special Offer of Virtual Server 2005 (and there are a lot of you):

We had hoped to have the offer available by October 1, 2004 to coincide with the general availability of Virtual Server 2005. We regret any inconvenience. Please continue to watch the MSDN Subscriptions Home Page or MSDN Subscriber Downloads for additional information.

Short answer: it's coming and it'll be here soon.
