O12… The thing looks fabulous…

I just installed O12 and well I'm hooked, literally I love the sucker this is going to be a real cool Office.  The new ribbon takes some getting used to but once you get over that it Rocks!

Outlook 12 has a new To-Do Bar that is really really really cool and should have been in the 2003 version but hey can't get everything or else there is no need for a new version.

I you have a chance to try it out you should.  B1 is a bit sluggish but it quite stable.

There are a few issues with some 3rd party office add-in that don’t behave very well namely Mind Manager which cause my Outlook to max out the CPU and be stuck.  Once I figure this out I just remove the integration and all is good now.

Should be a fun ride in that beta as well, is it only me or do you guys feel we live in beta software these days... ;-)

Cheers,

ET

Where in the world is ET today!
Hey it's been a while but I've been busy circling the globe, first the UK, then the launch in San Francisco... I want you to want me... oh what memories hearing cheap trick play that song...
Then back to my home base Montreal for a week, then on to New York for the launch there as well.  I was manning our boot at both those launch and also did ask the experts in both cities.

Today I went to the launch in Montreal it was very interesting getting to talk with the local guys here... and to speak in my mother tongue French.  I was doing ask the experts here and will also be doing that in Quebec City on Thursday.

It was a fun filled day and we finished it by going to eat at Rubens on Ste-Catherine's with all the 'experts', Barry Gervin, Mario Cardinal, Guy Barette, Eric Cote, Nicole Calinoiu and her husband, Jerome Carron and John Bristowe it was a fun diner and we had a good time.

It's been a very cool launch month for me and now I can focus on finishing up a few loose ends before the end of the year and feel good about 2005 and ready to start a brand new 2006 with Vista and O12.... but Team System is far from dropping from my radar we still need to RTM the sucker and roll it out inside my company in a big way.

Cheers for now,

ET
Timeout (30000 milliseconds) waiting for the SQL Server Reporting Services (MSSQLSERVER) service to connect on Single Server Install of TFS B3R

So I've been installing the Single Server Versions of Team Fondation Server in Virtual PC quite regularly throughout the life cycle of the product and now that we have final bits for the .NET Framework I am excited that we can now create a pretty stable base and only install incremental TFS builds to test.

In my latest VM I've been getting this error on startup:

Event Type: Error
Event Source: Service Control Manager
Event Category: None
Event ID: 7009
Date:  11/3/2005
Time:  11:54:40 AM
User:  N/A
Computer: EDS-KFBOJV3ZTG5
Description:
Timeout (30000 milliseconds) waiting for the SQL Server Reporting Services (MSSQLSERVER) service to connect.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

Well SQL Server Reporting Services is needed for all the reporting aspects of TFS and also when creating new projects so it needs to run and I don't want to have to go and start it manually each time I reboot my server. The Single Server is starting a lot of stuff including a DC so it may be that there are just too many things to start and RS is timing out. That didn't use to happen before so I did a bit of digging and well I didn't find much on this particular error until I stumbled on this article http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=884495 which is completely unrelated (since it talks about ISA) but the error is the same so I applied the steps to resolve this problem on my VM and all is good now.  I used a timeout of 60000 I may take less but that's the one I used.

Hope this help someone else,

Cheers,

ET
