Eric Johnson's Blog IT Architect - My ramblings on work, technology, & life in general

I have been receiving TONS of questions about Team Suite, Team System, etc.  So I did some research and found this great Channel 9 interview with Rick LaPlante.  Rick is the general manager of Visual Studio Team System.  In the interview he responds to customer complaints about VSTS's planned licensing and pricing. He explains 4-6 key decision points that companies can make to decide which product is right for their environment.  He also makes a good point about Microsoft changing their product focus from just the developer tools, to provide tools for an entire engineering staff or the product life cycle from end to end.  The new Team Suite product will include tool for Architects, Developers, and Testers.

Being a consultant myself, I was very glad to hear that they are responding to the question of how to get the product into the hands of those of us that help companies implement and fully utilize Microsoft products once they have purchased them.  Granted they still have work to do, because the only copy of team system that I can afford to use at this point is the beta...

I suggest that people spend the time watching this interview if they are confused about the new MSDN universal, Team Suite, Team System pricing and/or licensing.  The interview can be found here.

This is a great example of the quality interviews that Robert Scoble is doing over at channel 9.  Channel 9 is truly becoming one of the greatest developer resources on the web.  Thanks Robert!
