You already know about the benefits in scalability and performance promised by 64-bit computing. So what’s holding you back? If your company is like most, three main concerns are keeping you from putting the power of x64 to work:
  1. Not all of my applications will scale
  2. Not all of my applications are compatible
  3. There’s no good way to calculate ROI
Hesitate no more. Now there’s a compelling, easy migration path that enables you to kiss 32-bit architectural limits goodbye and bring the powerful capabilities of 64-bit computing home. It starts with Windows Server 2003 x64 Editions—and Citrix Presentation Server for Microsoft Windows Server 2003 x64 Editions, which extensively leverages x64’s scalability and performance benefits.

Can it work with other systems and applications from the 32bit world?

Windows Server 2003 x64 Editions can execute native 64-bit and 32-bit applications. Not only will 32-bit applications run on 64-bit, most of them enjoy faster, better performance. This is accomplished by running 32-bit applications inside the WOW 64 (Windows on Windows 64) execution layer. WOW 64 isolates 32-bit applications from 64-bit applications while providing interoperability and data exchange through COM and remote procedure calls (RPC). It also prevents file and registry collisions between 32-bit and 64-bit versions of the same application. Applications that are written to run natively in Windows Server 2003 x64 Editions have full access to the large virtual memory address space (16 TB).

And because the 64-bit version of Presentation Server and Windows Server 2003 x64 Editions are fully interoperable with 32-bit components, they provide seamless migration to 64-bit—enabling you to run 32-bit applications today on the 64-bit system and transition to 64-bit apps as they become available, without changing operating system or servers.
