Any of you who read my blog know that I am a strong supporter of VMware.  They have a wonderful product that IMO runs rings around MS Virtual PC/Server.  Not to long ago they announced that their GSX server line would be renamed into VMware Server and offered for FREE to anyone.  It runs on Linux or Windows Server 2000/2003 and can host any vitrual machine created with ESX Server, the previous GSX Server, Workstation or Microsoft Virtual Server.

If you are a software developer like I am and you are not using VMware to test your application across platforms you should be.  Jump on over and check it out.

Not only do I test my applications in virtual machines across multiple platforms but I do ALL of my development work in a virtual machine.  I find this most useful when I write something in consultant mode and I want to freeze the development environment for later.  I write, test, move to production and freeze my development environment.  That way months or even a year down the road if I have a problem I can unzip and bring my development environment back to where I left off.  Many might find this a little... well over the top but it really does work and it saves heaps of time reconfiguring for those picky builds.
