Well, the “was going to be in Longhorn but now it’s not” WinFS has been released to Beta 1. You can download it via MSDN subscriber downloads under the Tools, SDKs, DDKs section. You can also check out the WinFS blog at http://blogs.msdn.com/winfs/ I doubt I’ll be playing with this one. While the idea is interesting and I believe has its place I’m just not in a position where it really sparks my interest at the moment.
Plus, as an added bonus, MSDN Subscriber downloads has undergone a face lift. Also the MSDN Subscriber web site is a little jazzed up as well. Flashing some VS2005 bling. It’s pretty but the jury is out on the actual usefulness of the changes.
Oh, one final thing. You can export your product keys into an XML file. Hmmm… Probably won’t replace the printout in my DVD binder but it’s something. The Date Claimed column has some odd dates in it but perhaps I just forgot when I really generated some of them.
