Indian Parliament passed the Information Technology Bill in May 2000 which is known as the Information Technology Act, 2000. This IT Act, 2000 contains the Cyber laws. This act has founded the legal framework for electronic records and other activities done by electronic means/ways. The IT Act provides for the following amongst many other things:
Legal recognition of electronic records
E-commerce
Digital signatures
E-governance
Cyber crimes, etc.
