Video Conversations with MSN Messenger 7.0

My wife and daughter are in Japan for 2 months and I'm alone back here in the US. They go to Japan once a year, so this isn't the first time. To keep in touch, we've used the Webcam feature of MSN Messenger.

Released just in time for this trip, was MSN Messenger 7.0. The video conversation feature rocks in 7.0. The video quality is slightly better and I can expand the video window to full screen so it really makes it feel like we're connected. I can play games with my daughter like peekabo and other funny expressions we make at each other. The new winks feature is a lot of fun too.

You gotta get MSN Messenger 7.0.

Gravatar Yep, completely agree. That's what Amy and I are using for when I'm out of town. Works fairly well. 4/12/2005 6:41 PM | Dave

Gravatar I use MSN Messenger 7.0 for video conversations. However, we have trouble hearing each other. What can I do to improve the audio portion of the conversation? We are currently using the built in mic on the Logitech Quick Cam Pro 4000. 4/22/2005 3:26 PM | Glynn

Gravatar I have the same camera (Logitech QuickCam Pro4000) and find that when I try to talk NY to London - the only connection I have tried, the quality of both video and audio is terrible with MSN 7.0. We're both using DSL connections. Interestingly enough it is much better with Windows Messenger although of course the features are more limited and the picture smaller. We've even tried using the Logitech VideoCall software, but with that the quality is also poor and the other end can never hear me despite my having the Logitech microphone set as the default.

Gravatar I've been using messenger 6.0 to talk between Australia and the UK. When v7.0 came out we had to switch back to Windows Messenger because the video frame rate was really bad and voice was none existent. My friend put me onto skype for the audio and that is brilliant. leaves MSN for dead. We then use the "Send Video" option in MSN to see each other. The video frame rate is still poor. I'm not sure if that is mssenger or my computer though. 10/9/2005 4:52 AM | Ross

Gravatar I call U.S. to Europe using msn messenger 7.5. My logitec cam is OK, BUT there is a TREMENDOUS amount of noise, static, crackling when we speak. It is intolerable. I have dial up. Any advice? 12/6/2005 2:50 PM | Barbara

Gravatar I have been on video link to Australia for months, works fine on my home pc, but just bought a new laptop. The sound is really choppy, slightly daleky sounding, and I dunno what to do. Nothing to do with the upnp, or the connection (it's on the same router as the pc, but through wireless). Not the mic either. I get the impression there's too much data going through, like i have the audio quality on too high a setting on something. I'm so stuck, I can't find anything on google about this. Help!!!

Gravatar I am trying to have a video conversation with my son in London, England from my home in London, Ontario, Canada. The video is good, but the voice is overwelmed by a huge static noise. Is the problem at his end or mine. I have tested my mic and it passed fine. His mic is built into his laptop. Sure would be nice to chat with him. It sounds like this is a popular problem with MSN Messenger - has anyone found a solution? douginlondon@aol.com Thanks. 3/19/2006 2:03 PM | Douginlondon
