.NET Nomad What I've learned along the way

Well, New Jersey technically, but as I write this I am being hurtled headlong towards the big apple on what appears to be a large, metallic worm.

I’ve recently relocated to New York in order to move in with my girlfriend and be closer to my family. In terms of personal life this is exactly what I want and I couldn’t be happier with my decision. Professionally I was a bit hesitant. I had a really great thing going at Quicken Loans. People seemed to appreciate the work I was doing there and I had a sense of ownership on projects that is hard to get at a company these days.

This isn’t to say that I feel I’ve made a bad decision as far as current employment goes. I’m currently working as a consultant for a relatively upscale, boutique firm based out of Manhattan. The firm has the majority of its clients in the financial sector, but also maintains a decent amount of work in the media and publishing space. I haven’t been placed at a client yet, but I am hoping that in the next week or so I’ll have an idea of what is going on.

Of course, day one at the firm was present day. I showed up and I had a shiny new Dell D630 waiting for me on my desk. It isn’t the top-end model, but the specs are just about right for development work. As you can see from the basic info below, the only thing that is lacking is the integrated video, but pretty much everything I do is memory and CPU bound.

CPU: 1.8Ghz Core 2 Duo

RAM: 2Gb

HDD: 60Gb

WIFI: Intel-pro wireless a/b/g

GPU: Intel GMA X3100

So, this is nice and all, but why do you care and what am I going to do for you? Excellent question, even if it is rhetorical. My goal with this blog is to offer up information related to development on the Microsoft platform. For the most part this will mean posts about the .NET Runtime and associated frameworks. I have interests in web services, ASP.NET, LINQ, WF, and WCF. From time to time you might get a BizTalk post out of me as well. At this point I’ve got four hours a day of commute time, so I should be able to start producing soon.

Hi Nomad,

It seems you know about web development. Can you suggest me a company located in New York to help me build my company website? So far I've only found this:
