My Dad

Early Wed morning my dad died. This was the end of a series of setbacks starting with falling on election day breaking his left hip and arm. He was starting to recover from the fall through physical therapy but after a few hospitalizations  at  Boca Community Hospital they found a tumor in his lower colon. Despite the high risk, we decided to operate, there were no reasonable alternatives. He  survived the surgery much better than expected but 1 1/2 days later they moved him from the surgical ICU and to a normal room. Later that night at ~3:30 am his heart stopped. They tried to revive him but could not.

I posted some pictures on facebook: http://www.facebook.com/home.php#/album.php?aid=85638&id=693530361

The good news is that over the past couple of years since I moved him from PA to Boca I saw him a couple times a week. Usually once during the week I would stop by Edgewater Estates, an ACTS “lifecare” community where he lived on an assisted living floor to check on him. Then, normally on Sunday, I would pick him up and bring him back to the house for dinner if any of the kids were around or go out and eat. I tried to get him interested in a number different restaurants but his #1 favorite was the CICI’s pizza buffet.

Here is the obituary I wrote:
