My Blog Friends

Tonight I attended the official launch of the DayJet (http://www.dayjet.com/), on demand, point to point air service to under-utilized airports around the state of Florida (initially)... This was held in the Avitat hanger (a fairly new Fixed Base Operator) overlooking the Boca Raton Airport Field.

Besides knowing some people who work there, I was looking forward to seeing an Eclipse 500 VLJ - Very Light Jet(http://www.eclipseaviation.com/), the first of a new generation of low cost jet aircraft. I did get to sit in one, a two pilot, three passenger plane. Not large but meant to be low cost, fast transportation. DayJet has taken delivery of 12 jets with another few hundred on order. Eclipse was founded by Vern Raburn, former, early Microsoftie.

As Ed Iacobucci, DayJet (and Citrix) founder pointed out. DayJet is the first company to get a fully digital certificate from the FAA. The entire process from customer negotiation/booking through to automatic generation and filing of flight plans to the FAA is a first. Most airlines have hundreds of people doing this work, DayJet has zero. They hired a group brains from Georgia Tech to come up with the algorithms for the underlying engines then built all the automated business software on top of that.

While he was talking about how quiet the Eclipse is given the somewhat rocky history of the Boca Airport and it's relationsship with the surrounding neighborhoods (curved approach path and  all).. a DayJet Eclipse took off, made some noise but not bad, he did not have to stop talking. A few minutes later a larger business jet (a Falcon??) followed by a smaller (than the Falcon) took off, both made a LOT more noise so that Ed had to stop speaking.

A point of history on the Boca Airport... it was a very large complex during WWI where both air and ground crews trained on the then secret and evovling RADAR systems developed in England and then at MIT. Sally J Ling wrote an interesting book on the subject "Small Town, Big Secrets". Much of the former airfield is now occupied by Florida Atlantic University with the Boca Raton airport retaining one of the airstrips.

Outstanding! Wish I could have been there to celebrate. I saw the Eclipse a little over a year ago in Scottsdale, and was very impressed. Here's a blog post from back then with a video of the jet:

I was also in attendance. Great turn out and glad they have finally begun. I also met one of their charming managers Kurt from Jamaica. He was the person who briefed the mayor for his flight... so polite and also most of the staff I met!!!

Dayjet sucks and the service is to laugh at.
Little planes equal little money..
The market will be dry out so will the investors and the ones that did pitch in will loss all the money. Who wants to go to a little tiny airport?

Bill Nworb this service isnt for someone like you who wants to fly from MIA to ATL for $150. Lots of businessmen want to fly to smaller closer airports closer to their operations do some research.

Ignorant? The ignorance only come from fooled people. The many that don't stop to think where
the Spin doctor's of The so called "Corporate inventions get the NEXT best craz". The whole idea behind the so called VLJ is Eclipse and Dayjet to get public support. Build up enough investors on future projections of PROFITS (no one knows when) The Ceo's get rich and the small investors and public lose in the end. THE TRUTH is these people have done it before with Computer tec and are now doing it in a aviation industry. The computer and internet bubble have made these people rich and created the 90's bubble to bankrupt millions in debt and close the small business by 2001.
The goodfellas are back trying to fool you idiot!
Eclipse is a sweat factory for the little jet that sucks. The production is slow because it's the frankenstien of parts coming from all over.
Dayjet's another full of it secret sauce of
spin news... Look at the model real closely and
you see it too...

Dayjet is really a Dot com with wings...
The sweat factory of eclipse is well known these days the all former PC guru is trying to cash in on a new Payday. Dayjet will go bankrupt sooner than later. The eclipse jet too small for any real business. Dayjet is not going to survive this economy and the public and private sectors aren't free to throw money away a 2nd time aound! HYPE isn't going to work these days. You better ha ve a profitable business before going into the cookie jar... We are back to business 101 folks, NO more funding a a loss. Especially
Public funding- Have a real plan and stop telling us how much money you bring in sometime in 2015. Just talk to the people that invested back in 2000 to those hype companies with huge stocks that exploded in questionable profits..
When the smoke cleared the ceo and the insider traders all sold before the worthless note got to your door. Dayjet we say NOOOOOO get a business first..
