Winnipeg Code Camp – Thanks and Lessons Learned

I wanted to mention some thanks and share some things we did differently this year from previous code camps. First the thanks: Thanks to the Speakers! We had an amazing array of speakers volunteer their time and offer their expertise in a wide variety of subjects. We also had speakers come in from Boston, Edmonton, and Ottawa, and we thank those that travelled so far just to share with us. Thanks to the Sponsors! Putting on a code camp takes dollars and we’re very lucky in Winnipeg to have a number ......

Winnipeg Code Camp – The After Party

After a full day of sessions, discussions, and good times, a group of speakers and attendees traveled down to the King’s Head pub to celebrate a great event! And just for fun, Michael DeFehr enjoying his chicken wings (He had a great pose where he was gnawing on a chicken wing while totally focussed on the gold-medal curling game on TV…alas, this one must suffice) ......

Winnipeg Code Camp Rolls On!

Lunch has been devoured, prizes have been handed out, and now its all about the afternoon sessions! We had some great prizes handed out: a full Telerik suite, JetBrains licenses, O’Reilly books, a conference registration for Prairie Developer Conference, and an HP Netbook! Lunch in the multi-purpose room before prizes are drawn. Will rockin’ the I Love You (you tuck the thumb in for devil horns man) ;) Anvil Digital in the house! For those wondering, yes Dylan found his jacket. Donald Belcham in ......

Winnipeg Code Camp is Underway!

We’re already into the second set of sessions at the Winnipeg Code Camp! This year we’ve added a fourth room and extra speakers, and the community response has been great: both from an attendee perspective, and the fantastic sponsors that have stepped up to support us! Telerik is one of our prize sponsors, but instead of just sending up swag they also gave us a speaker! Evan Hutnick came up from Boston to do stops at the Regina and Saskatoon user groups before speaking here at our code camp! Thanks ......

Right Employees + Happy Employees = Productive Employees

I’m sitting in an area of the Microsoft campus called The Mixer. It’s one of a number of buildings that comprise an area offering restaurants, cafeterias, patios, professional services (credit union, hair salon, etc.) for Microsoft employees. With water flowing through fountains and the soccer field in view, you have to appreciate how much Microsoft tries to make the workplace a comfortable and enjoyable one. I had a discussion with a colleague thinking of leaving their employer. They were given ......

MVP Summit 2010 – Day 1

So today was the first day of the Microsoft MVP summit, the annual conference where MVP’s from around the world congregate in the Seattle area to network, attend sessions, and interact with their respective product groups. Of course, there’s a bit of fun to be had as well, and the first day of the conference is no exception. The Canadian Clique went out for breakfast, picking up some US peeps along the way. We had breakfast at the Palomino. FANTASTIC food…steak and eggs is definitely recommended. ......
