The alarm went off at 12:45 AM this morning. I had approx 1.5 hours of utility-grade sleep, but I awoke with a fire in my belly the likes of which Boxing Day had never seen!
After stirring the hot chocolate and arranging my portion of the mornings supplies…
…it was off to pick up the first of my three amigos that would be joining me this fine morning: Dylan, Juan, and Keith…
We arrived at Best Buy approx 2:45, but realized that we forgot a piece to Dylan’s Coleman stove. So back we went while Keith and Juan stayed behind and held our place in line. We returned by 3:00 and set up shop…
Dylan and one of his friends that stopped by. Chili, smokies, and escargot are on the stove.
Mmmm…chili outside of Best Buy!
My buddy Stu joined us in line…hot chocolate FTW (and some Irish Creme additive too)
Between 3:00 and 5:00 we cooked up chili, two rounds of hot dogs, bacon, eggs, and some escargot that Keith had brought. Of course we shared all this with people around us in line and there was a great vibe. The weather was AWESOME for a Boxing Day morning but I had my truck parked right up next to us in line so we had a quick warm up spot just in case…
There was a Best Buy employee that came around passing out Heat Factory warmers to the people lined up. What is a heat factory and how do you use it? Watch our instructional video…
Video: How To Use A Heat Factory
As the morning krept closer to 6:00 AM and the doors opening, the lineup started to snake around the building…
In front of us…
Behind us…
Around the corner…
Unfortunately, so did the appearance of the scum of the Boxing Day morning: the Vultures.
Vultures are the people that stand by the door close to opening, and cut into the line there instead of getting to the end of the line like everyone else does. We rained down a loud chorus of boos and jeers at them, but these lowlifes have no shame or understanding.
Finally the doors opened and the stampede was on!
This picture really doesn’t do the actual crowd size justice, but notice all the people lining up on the right.
And that my friends was Boxing Day! I scored a Blu-Ray player so I’m now caught up with the current technology. But more importantly, I had a great time with good friends and we’ve now raised the bar to what next year’s Boxing Day will have to live up to.
