I was talking with Phil Haack via facebook status comments regarding Phil’s picture for the upcoming ASP.NET MVC book being published by Wrox (which you can buy at amazon here, at amazon.ca here, or at your local bookstore…no link provided for that).
Phil was commenting about some aspects of his picture, and I began to type “Well at least you don’t look like that guy on the en…” and then…I stopped…that couldn’t be…BUT IT WAS: Rob Conery. But what was it that caused me such grief and pain at the sight of my BFF’s photo? Consider…
Rob Conery, kneeling in a photo with Scott Hanselman (yes, Rob is *that* tall). Notice the trendy glasses, the Hawaiian jewelry, and the attention to hair detail.
Rob Conery, showing his nurturing yet playful side: a baby, a bottle, a bag for god-knows-what, and the beach/ocean in the background…serious, yet playful.
Rob Conery at the MVP summit, sporting a Clark Kent meets Scarface (if Scarface shopped at Seattle stores for trendy rain-wear). Notice that his style and attention to hair-detail is making those around him nervous.
So you can understand my utter disbelief when I saw the cover to the upcoming book…
What is THAT?! That is not the trend-setting, woman swooning, shut your mouth mofo leaving troll comments on my blog Rob Conery that we have come to know and love!
Now, the topic of Wrox and other publisher’s book covers has come up in discussions before, so I don’t want to rehash what’s already been discussed. But I wanted to give what I thought in my mind we’d see when Rob graced his first book cover…
Now THAT is style…THAT has pop! That says “Why are you looking at anyone *else’s* MVC book…I’m on the freaking team brother!”
Rob…if you want to talk about this, Justice and I are here for you. We’ve taken on the burden of bringing Canadian geeks into a new era of fashion, style, and reduced body odor…and although you’re American, we still extend our hand. You’re not alone, you don’t have to live life as a stereotype of book cover photos anymore. Like Obama said, “Yes we can!”.
