Ok, this isn't necessarily up-to-the-minute news, as Sean posted about his leaving Microsoft on December 20. However I'm not sure if many outside the MVP program had any exposure to him, and my brief meeting with him left enough of an impression that I'd be blogging about him here.
At the Canadian UG Summit this past November we held it simultaneously with the Canadian MVP Summit in Vancouver as well. We (the user group leaders) were invited to attend the MVP keynote and discussion period. Sean delivered the keynote, and talked about his forte: social media and its evolution in connecting people. I found it really interesting...very much a forward-thinking message of what's coming as far as community and the importance of businesses using technology to connect with their users in meaningful ways.
Sean is leaving Microsoft after 15 years to pursue his focus in a new format: his own company. He mentioned in his post that he's going to be working on a book, doing speaking engagements, and consulting around this area of social media and communities.
I'd encourage you to add his blog to your RSS feeds, as he posts a lot of great information (and shares some frustrations with mobile carriers).
And if he happens to read this, good luck with your new endeavor Sean; I'm sure you'll be successful at it!
