Canadian UG Summit on Monday at Dev Teach West

Saturday, November 24, 2007 11:11 AM

This Monday, Dev Teach will be kicking off with a User Group summit. Below is the agenda. Please note that morning sessions are held two at a time simultaneously. Also note that INETA will be hosting the last afternoon segment, not the second last.

9:00 Get Most out of Your UG Event / How to Stimulate Membership to Help
10:30 Tools to Help Your User Group / Creating a Local Event Strategy: How to Organize Long Term Community Learning
12:00 Keynote - Sean O'Driscoll
12:45 Lunch
1:15 UG Group Discussion - MSDN
2:30 UG Group Discussion - User Group Leader
3:45 UG Group Discussion - INETA with Verso presentation

Below are the outlines for the morning sessions. Please remember that each group occurs at the same time, so you have to pick which one you would like to attend.

Also, we're looking for moderators. These are people that don't need to be subject experts for the topic, but that are passionate about it and would like to guide the discussion (not lead it, just guide it).

9:00 Sessions

Getting the Most Out of Your UG Event

This discussion will focus on sharing experiences and brainstorming new ways to share presentation content with your local community. People interested in talking about how to record presentations, make them available on the web, and how to set up the required infrastructure should attend.

Moderator: We're still looking! Any volunteers?!

How to Stimulate Membership to Help

All user groups are volunteer run, but what happens when you have problems finding new people to join the UG board, or that are willing to help with larger events like code camps? This session will brainstorm how to get your membership to buy in that they aren't just there for free pizza and prizes, but to contribute to their local development community.

Moderator: We're still looking! Any volunteers?

10:30 Sessions

Tools to Help Your User Group

We're always looking for new tools and partners to help our user groups be the most effective while also ensuring that volunteers are productive and not wasting time. This session will focus on what tools groups have been using and also talking about other pain points that tools would be nice to have.

Moderator: We're still looking! Any volunteers?

Creating a Local Event Strategy: How to Organize Long Term Community Learning

IT is not the hot-button industry that it used to be, and many universities and colleges are noticing a decline in enrollment. As a member of the technology community, how can we help ensure that we're encouraging the growth of our industry and reaching out to those in colleges and high schools, as well as those already in the industry? This session is all about how we can make an impact in our development communities beyond our own careers and into the next generations.

Moderator: We're still looking! Any volunteers?
