Law and Order SVU: install the what?!

Friday, December 1, 2006 6:56 AM
I was watching this week's Law and Order SVU episode (love my PVR) this morning. One of the characters is a "computer geek" (oddly enough, played by Bob Sagat). There's a scene where he's at his computer firm and is scolding one of his employees. They're at her desk, and the computer appears to be a Mac (the keyboard was from a Mac anyway) and he utters this spew of garbage:

"If you don't install the service pack on the cluster, you open the network up to a back oriface attack."

Yes, they used the term "Back Oriface", which for those of you too young to remember was the name of a trojan from back in the day that was a play on Microsoft's Back Office product.

So remember kids, make sure to install that service pack on the cluster!

heh just one more reason to hate Bob Saget. As if "Full House" wasn't enough. 12/1/2006 7:57 AM | blogus maximus

Don't forget the infamous Law and Order SVU where the following line was uttered:

"Don't worry, keep trying to guess the password. Normally they give you a hint after 3 failed attempts."

I just watched an Law and Order: CI from a week or so ago where a rip off Screech character was killed, and it involved posting movies online to the "Dark Net", a seedy place where copyright materials show up.

Gee...i thought it was called Kazaa...or Limewire...or BearShare...and it had kewl marketing logos.

LOL...people have no clue...

I should also mention on that same episode of L&O:SVU, one of the detectives hooks up an HP PDA with a cable, and all of a sudden the spreadsheet application magically appears on a bigger monitor. As if.

But won't that fragment the virtual system? 12/1/2006 9:40 AM | Steven R

I LOVE BOB SAGET!

How can anyone hate that guy. He's freaking hilarious! I'm very confused by this Chris!

Have you seen his scene in Half-Baked? Have you seen the Jamie Kennedy "Rollin with Bob Saget" rap video? What's not to love!

Umm... it seems to me that the silly line about the service pack on the clusters was probably written as a joke.

And the line about 3 password tries giving you a clue, well it depends on the context, but it sounds like it was either meant to be sarcastic, or, if they were logging into some kind of website or something, I have seen sites that use a hint instead of a "secret question" for forgotten passwords. It's a stupid way to do things, I think, but it's not completely unheard of. 1/20/2007 8:37 PM | Ian
