So I got an update on my Mac. Turns out that one of two things happened:
1) I got a faulty logic board from the manufacturer, and the booting issue raised itself while I was doing the bootcamp thing.
2) Boot Camp can seriously f*ck up your Mac in horrible ways. There's always a risk that beta software may cause dataloss, but there's no reason why it should cause hardware failure.
So I've got a new logic board coming from Apple which will be replaced into my machine. What is a logic board? The term seems to be Apple-specific, and is basically the motherboard of the machine...but it also includes the processor and video card. So yes, I'm getting 90% of my machine replaced...for free (thank you warranty!).
Regardless, I don't think I'm going to be updating it with Boot Camp until I really need to. WoW is the only game I really play on my PC, and I can get that for Mac. Parallels works well for Office type applications, and if I really need a Windows box, I can just use my work laptop or my other home PC. So all good.
Quite the experience though...
