Me and my Mac...bad first date

Friday, September 22, 2006 9:33 PM

So its now official. If you haven't heard already, the guy with the Steve Ballmer shrine has bought an IMac. I really like it...well, until I tried to mix Windows with Apple. But before I get into that, here are my first few thoughts:

The Good

The mouse is awesome. Many people mistakenly think that its a one button mouse. Not true...sorta. It is a one button mouse, but its sensitive to how many fingers are on it. So if you lift the finger normally used to click on the left mosue button, it simulates a right click. Very kewl. The screen is awesome...very nice. The little extras like the remote, the controls on the keyboard, and even the iSite camera...very kewl! It comes with a good amount of applications too.

The Not so Good

Safari blows. I'm sorry...but it blows. I don't like it. I miss my tabbed browsing. I miss my rss feeds available from my IE7 Onfolio toolbar. And I miss being able to add blog entries through GWB's online editor...becuase using it will CRASH SAFARI! Gay.

The Horror

So tonight I decide to install Boot Camp and try out Windows on a Mac. I read the documentation that said to use Windows XP SP2, but I figured that was due to the vulnerabilities in XP with no service paks. Apparantly I was wrong. After running the setup, getting confused by the Windows setup (the partition it showed was wrong...it wanted to install onthe Mac partition and not the Windows one I created), and restarting, I now have a Mac that powers on to, and this is actually used on forums, the "White Screen of Death". I've tried all the tricks suggested online to boot to the OS X CD (hold down C while powering on and having the disk in the drive), but no go. I tried holding down the Option button while booting (supposedly brings you to some other menu) but nothing. In fact, my keyboard doesn't even seem to register anything (the Caps Lock button won't light up when I press it). So I havne't even had my Mac for a full day and its already hooped. Awesome.

So tomorrow I'll have to spend some time bringing it to a local Apple repair place and see what they can do, unless someone online reading this has some ideas. But please, learn from my mistake:

Don't Install Bootcamp!!!

Sigh...alright...off to bed.
