Cascading Style Sheet Compatibility in Internet Explorer 7

Someone pointed out that my blog rendered improperly in IE 6. This was odd, as I hadn't heard anything about it. I recently posted using LIveWriter's Blockquote feature, but my blog rendered fine in IE7 and Firefox. Once I took the blockquote out of my post though, IE 6 rendered fine as well. Interesting...

So I haven't put too much time into reasearching, but I did find this article about CSS compatibility with IE 7, and it talks about some of the differences in how IE 7 renders things...which scares the crap out of me. It was one thing to have IE and Netscape compatibility...now we're looking at IE 7, IE 6, Firefox, Flock, Mozilla, Safari...NOT COOL!

I shudder at all the work I used to have to do 10 years ago when I was building web sites to make things render the same between IE and Netscape. You're right that now it might be worse to support all the browsers you listed. Why do they even bother having standards for this stuff if no one follows them?

Just this week I discovered an issue with one of our web apps rendering things differently in Netscape 7.2. (Yup, apparently companies still run this version) but that was more of an encoding issue not CSS.

Maybe this will bring back the old "Best viewed in IE 7 images" on all future sites :)
