Community Launch Event Next Week

Friday, January 20, 2006 11:24 AM

Next week is our community launch event for VS.NET 2005 and SQL Server 2005 to the user group. It was originally going to be another member doing it, but he had a family issue to take care of so the torch got passed to me.

I was aware that we'd have to come up with our own method of handing out the discs, and I knew that we weren't getting any money for food/drinks (the materials and training were it)....which is fine...but then I find out that the examples we're supposed to present are the same ones shown at the big launch events.

So...its going to be a re-hash of the event that they were already at, but with a different speaker? Me thinks I'll need to spice things up for my presentation...I'd like to do some discussion on language specific features, mobile development, the new data control features, and the difference in ASP.NET 2.0 from 1.1. But we'll see...I have all weekend to prep.

Every development office should have a slurpee machine...EVERY office...and there's no 7-11 downtown...grrr.

# re: Community Launch Event Next Week

Our community launch is coming up soon on 2/7 (18 days and counting). We too discovered that the presentations are the same as at the big cities. However, our nearest big city (Washington DC) just held their event on Jan 11, and there have been no seats available since back in October.

It's great you want to spice it up, but most of the folks might not have been to a big city event. These were promoted as scaled down local version if unable to attend. Let me know how it goes and post your tips and tricks!

BTW.. I read your previous entry. I too am a UG leader and have been for almost two years. Maintaining attendance is an ever ongoing struggle for this region, keep writing your UG ideas especially any for areas with smaller populations.

GOOD LUCK with your prep! 1/20/2006 12:36 PM | Robin Edwards
