Bar Code Woes

I downloaded a 3 of 9 bar code font from this site (http://www.squaregear.net/... and began using it within my application...very exiciting stuff! Until I find myself with a bunch of generated bar codes that don't work. It's not my scanner, because I can make a 3 of 9 bar code at this site (http://www.barcodesinc.com... print it, and have my scanner read it no problem. So then I'm thinking “It's gotta be the font itself”. I mean, outputting barcode ......

Infragistics Woes

This just doesn't make sense...I'm at a client's for the next month, and I'm getting the app set up on my machine here. We're using infragistics controls, but for some reason when I load the project I'm getting the error: Value of type 'Infragistics.Win.Appearance' cannot be converted to 'Infragistics.Win.Appearanc... Now...I'm the only one getting this error. I can drag/drop infra controls onto forms without a problem, and I even opened up permissions to everybody with full control just to test ......

Why my company rules and Xbox 360 HD weirdness

I work for the coolest company! We had our Christmas party on Friday, a very nice dinner at a local restaurant. We also all got gifts from the owners: a new IPod (the one with the video capability)!!! Very kewl, and much appreciated. I was playing around on my 360 tonight when I noticed something odd in the settings: my hard drive has only a 13 Gig capacity...but its supposed to be a 20 gig hd. I'm guessing that this is because there must be some system files that are stored on the machine...but ......

You've gotta be kidding me

Those who read my last post know the frustration I've felt lately struggling to just register my XBox Live gamertag with my Passport account. It should be simple: you just re-enter the details from your original account info into the little text boxes and voila. But not so simple it turns out. I couldn't figure it out, the helpful tech support people this morning didn't fix it. But this afternoon another XBox support staffer showed me the light. And the culprit is, once again, the curse that my parents ......

XBox Live Woes

It's not really that difficult...all I want to do is associate my XBox Live gamertag with my 360. But for some reason it doesn't want to take. So I try to associate my passport and gamertag on the xbox website. Same thing: I get errors. So this morning I called XBox support. I talked to a very nice girl (can't remember her name) who was very helpful, and bugged not one but two supervisors on my behalf. The first supervisor sounded like a tool, but the second one, Chris, was helpful...although we ......

First Impressions of XBox 360

I finally plugged in my Xbox 360 tonight and got it up and running. I must say that I'm impressed with the hardware. It's a much nicer design than the old XBox (side by side, you can totally tell that Microsoft has improved over the original, bulky design). The controllers, which I thought I'd deteste, I actually really like! Wireless is a beautiful thing, and the controls are very responsive and comfortable. But what about the games? I have two: Project Gotham Racing 3 and Call of Duty 2.Project ......

XBox 360

This morning I joined the legions of geeks who took part in adding to the trust funds for Ballmer and Gates' children. I picked up my XBox 360 this morning from Best Buy. It went...well, it wasn't the most organized thing I've ever seen, but I think most of it had to do with the three camera crews from local TV stations that were setting up for the “perfect shot”. Most people who didn't have pre-orders or who didn't line up last night/early this morning were left with two options: core ......

Parenting Handbook Required

I remember when I was younger, there was a huge backlash on Dungeons and Dragons, Ozzy Osbourne, Metallica...all because parents blamed these influences on behaviour exhibited by some youth; suicide, violent behavior, mischief, whatever. There was always some media that could be blamed. Apparantly the latest target is Blizzard's World of Warcraft. This article suggests that a 13 year old boy jumped to his death because he was re-inacting a scene from the game. The parents are now going to sue Blizzard ......

Tell it like it is Rory

Hilarious post about the whiners on Slashdot reacting to how backwards compatibility is going to work on the XBox 360.

Language warning (Rated PG-13 post I'd say).

New Tech Blog

Welcome to my tech blog! I'm going to be retiring my spaces blog shortly (which was the plan all along). I'm going to be creating my own personal site (www.chaoticgood.ca) in the near future when I get more time (aiming for 2007 currently), but for now I wanted to have a tech-only type site that I could post on things that are work friendly. So here you won't find commentary on my views of society, abortion, religion, politics, etc....just Microsoft goodness and any geeky stuff that I come accross. ......
