Well, it turns out that you can (as a DBAdmin) interogate the sys.database_mirroring, sys.database_mirroring_enpoints views to find out all the information you require about your database mirroring 'collective' including which servers are involved, their roles (Principle, Mirror, Witness), their state and the ports that they have been configured on.
