So, I got Windows Vista Home Premium in the mail today! It installed in less than 15 minutes and pretty much everything was smooth sailing!
The only problem I came across was with audio. nVidia decided to stop making audio drivers for Vista, so I couldn't find anything for my motherboard's onboard audio controller. Biostar doesn't have any drivers for Vista (aside from High Definition Audio, which didn't work at all) and Realtek doesn't, either. Luckily, the Windows XP Realtek AC'97 driver works just fine. It gave me a warning about not being designed for Windows Vista, but I just ignored it.
I'm digging the desktop effects. I can't get enough of the window animations! Vista gave me a little scare when it gave my nVidia GeForce 8500GT (w/DirectX 10) a 1.0 Experience Rating, but it shot up to 4.8 after I installed the latest drivers.
Anyway, overall, I don't see what people are complaining about. Besides the audio driver issue, there have been absolutely no problems. UAC was really starting to bug me, so I just shut it off. Other than that, there's no other annoyances to speak of.
I've got a lot of software installations ahead of me, though. Keep a look out for more info on my Vista adventures!
