Recruiter Fail

So, a recruiter called me this morning around 10a. I work a FT job here in MI. So it Really irritates me when a headhunter calls out of the blue to discuss their recent "Opportunity" that I would be a "Great Fit for". I told her (not so politely) to email me and i'll respond. Here is that corrosponence.

Hi David,

It was gr8 talking to you, following are the details:

got your reference thru monster, there is a req for

Professionalism FAIL!!

Geetha, I operate on a multi strike system, And you struck out. Allow me to list how you have failed...
1.) You were Almost impossible to understand on the phone, If you can't effectively communicate with me, how can i be sure you have all the correct details for the gig?
2.) You called me during the work day without warning. I'm sure my current employer would LOVE to know that i'm speaking to a recruiter on their dime.
3.) You failed at proper email grammar. The term "Gr8" may be cute with your kids or that guy from the club, but for a professional email, it is a total fail.

Sorry, and better luck with your next opportunity.
Dave.

So you criticize her for poor "email grammar" (whatever that is) while you:

-used a lower case "i" in 2 spots where you should have capitalized.
-improperly capitalized "almost" in the middle of a sentence.
-improperly used a comma after the word "phone" where you should have used a period.

Be very, very careful about criticizing the communications of others until you have perfected the art yourself. Can you say "fail"?

Nicely done Dave! I think I am going to use your email as a template in replying all the people who said "I got your resume from Monster"

real nice...

Oops...missed one. In the first sentence of your critique, you improperly capitalized the word "and". You really do need to clean up your own act before laying the smack down on others.

Nazi -- There's a world of difference between improper comma placement and dropping a "Gr8" in professional correspondence.

I can say fail, i can also say Blow me? But at this point were splitting hairs, i figured it would only be a matter of time before a douche bag came out of the woodworks to bag on something for being functionally incorrect rather than a funny idea. Good job guy, but really, you should lighten up and pull the stick out of your ass before making prick responses like this one.

And you should own up to it too, Mr/Ms/Mrs/Wtfever "Grammar & Spelling Nazi". Out with it, whats your name?

I agree, there's a world of difference here. She's trying to make a professional contact, and types the words "gr8" and "thanx"? It's pretty hard to take something like that seriously.

You may be a Nazi, but you certainly don't know how to pick appropriate retorts.

Nazi,

The difference is the context. I type in shorthand with my buddies, but if I'm trying to make a good impression on a potential client, I'm going to use the best grammar I can. I don't think Dave was trying to make a good impression with this person, but she definitely should have been with him.

How will a blog post like this help you and your career?

Nope, total fail for everyone who responded. This is an obvious troll to see if anyone would pick up the incorrect spelling of "correspondence"

;)

Ferrisoxide, Stfu, your a douche too, and missing the point. Seems like everyone that bags on my errors is missing the glaring "GR8" in an email from a professional contact.

Because of this comment hijacking on my blog post, i feel this graph from graph jam is appropriate here.

Can't believe i missed "Just wondering"'s comment. The point of my blog is not to help me and my career.

Remember when free expression was just that?

Christ, some people really need to loosen up a little and relax.

At least she didn't say "plz" anywhere. LOLspeak has its place. It certainly can be used effectively in irony. In games / IM? Maybe. In e-mail? I won't even use it in casual e-mail, let alone professional mail. I'm willing to bet she'll alienate more people than she attracts this way.
