I've just started working on a BAM project, so I started reading tutorials. Everyone was mentioning Excel add-in. I thought that it was an installation that you download from Microsoft's website, but after spending couple of hours searching for this add-in I realized it's just a plain Excel file BAM.xls located in \Program Files\Microsoft BizTalk Server 2004\Tracking (depends in which folder you installed BizTalk) that you need to copy somewhere else, because it's read-only. I felt so stupid! I hope I spared you some time looking for it.

Update: In BizTalk 2006 BAM Excel is no longer implemented as a Excel template, now it's a permanent add-in. If it's not available when you open Excel, click Tools -> Add-ins -> Business Activity Monitoring

I tried to find the BAM Excel Add In in my Excel 2007, but couldnt find it. I installed BTS 2006 R2, installed Office 2007, and then reinstalled BTS 2006 R2, but I still cant see any BAM Add-Ins in Excel! Do I need to install Office 2003 to be able to use BAM Add-In?

BAM in Biztalk 2009.
Install and configure Bam tools and portal.
Install Office 2007.
In Excel 2007, go to Excel Button and select Excel Options.
In the Addins if Bam is not visible in the list then select Go.. browse button.
Browse to BizTalk Installation Dir\Exceldir and select Bam.xla.
Now the Addin tab will be visible in the Excel with Bam button.

with reference to above comment, for BAM add-in in Biztalk 2009, I did NOT have to select .xla file (Office 2007). Just checked the "Business Activity Monitoring" checkbox and clicked OK. It worked just fine.

By the way, I did it that way because I could not find any .xla file in BTS 2009 directory.
