Ok, so I was helping a friend this weekend with some web browsing problems, IE6, spyware, hijacked homepage and unwanted reappearing porn bookmarks, and the whole time I was working on his machine, IE was driving me nuts.  I am a *huge* fan of the Ctrl + Enter shortcut to add "http://www" and ".com" into the address bar for me.  His was not working, so I figured I'd just go into tools, options and reset default settings, but no luck.  I finally found it under Tools\Options\Advanced-Under Browsing, by checking the inline AutoComplete box.  Just out of curiosity, I tried resetting the defaults, and it *unchecked* that on me. Hmmm, ctrl + enter has always worked on exery pc I've ever used, how is that the case when it's not the *default* setting?

I know the *real* answer to this is go download Firefox, but for now there are still tons of people who don't use FF and they still ask us to help them with their computers from time to time.  There are also tons of companies who have declared IE the one browser to rule them all.

One more browsing shortcut sidenote: The Ctrl + Enter also works in FF, adding the http://www. and the .com to what you type in the address bar, but wait, there's more, if you order within the next fifteen minutes, Firefox will also add the http://www.  and .net to the entry if you use Shift + Enter. How is that done in IE?  Oh wait, it *can't* be done in IE, nevermind.

No, the solution is to repave the machine and learn to run as non-administrator on the box. With all those problems with spyware, hijacked homepage, and unwanted reappearing bookmarks, you are in big trouble. No matter how much you try to "clean" up the system, you don't know how many other ways the system has already been compromised and possibly "owned". It's a losing battle. Time to repave and do it right the next time.

Go to Tools -> Internet Options -> Content -> Auto Complete and make sure 'Web addresses' is checked.

Just start using opera. It just adds the http:// www and .com to text you insert google => www.google.com
But you can also specify wich other extendsion to add. If you prefer mail over www you can automaticaly check for mail.google.com and if it doenst exists www.google.com will be tried. The same goes for extensions.

Steven Moen is right, just set autocomplete to handle web addresses and ctrl+enter works fine. Non of these other options worked for me. There is no option for it in the Advanced tab like the original poster said

Does anyone know how to get .co.za instead of .com when hitting CTRL+Enter?

FOUND IT! I just needed to look a little longer!

In IE7 --> Internet Options --> General Tab --> Press Languages
    Enter co.za (or anything else).
This will work when you press ctrl+shift+enter.

I used inline autocomplete and checked off web addresses on my computer and control and enter still does not work. Any other suggestions.
