You know you're a pimp when...

You know you're a pimp when you arrive at the CTDOTNET user group escorted by your own Ukraine chauffeur (with a broken headlight)!  Carl, you travel in style man.

On a serious note, Robert Hurlbut gave a great talk last night at the CT .Net user group about Code Access Security and .Net Security.  If you live in CT and are a developer and don’t want to end up being a total loser, you NEED to come to these monthly meetings!

Let’s see, Free Pizza, Free Soda, Free Heat and Free Knowledge, hmmm almost sounds like a good deal.  Wake up CT, we had a user group, and it died, and now it’s back again, don’t let it die again!

Check out the website, there’s no meeting in December, it’s a kwanza thing, but there are great speakers slated for Jan and Feb so far, so, grab a few developer friends, and come get some free pizza and free knowledge.  If you have any suggestions for upcoming speakers or topics you’d like to see presented, contact Carl or S.B.  They have email links on the bottom of the page

Let’s not ruin a good thing, help the CTDOTNET user group take off, spread the word!!!

Code Camp 2 1/2 Paul Bunyan Style!!!

Well for those of you that attended either Code Camp (comparable to the original Woodstock) or Code Camp II, and can’t wait for Code Camp III (rumour has it we’ll see one in February ’05), then I have news for you!!!  Carl “the LumberjackFranklin has been kind enough to offer his service to a mini Code Camp, VB.net style.  The fun takes place in Waltham, MA, on Sunday, Jan 23, and it's FREE you cheap bums!

Join us for a Special Edition of Code Camp presented exclusively by our own Carl Franklin. This one day Mini Code Camp is focused entirely on VB.NET. The morning starts with a review of the fundamentals and the rest of the day expands on that to build a fully functional application that you can take with you! Come and learn best practices, coding techniques, database access, object oriented techniques and more for the VB.NET developer.

I hear this *the* place to be if you’re a cool developer.  I also hear thess talks are just what the doctor ordered for those of us (yeah, me too sometimes) bastards stuck in VB6 land that want to make the jump to VB.net.

Sign up today, and be sure to check out the new show from the people who brought you .NET Rocks!, made it crazy, then made it tame again.  Want unadulterated insanity that even non-programmers can crap their pants to?  Check out Mondays!!!  If you don’t I’ll publish those pictures of you and that sheep from your stag!

Wow, all I can say is wow!

What's the coolest thing going?  I’ll tell ya.

When you show up to pick two of your best friends up for a Hartford Wolfpack hockey game, and they both come out wearing shirts sporting your company logo on them.

I started my own company a while ago, DesignLizard.net, to pick up some side work in Flash animation and e-learning stuff, and also opened a CafePress store to make up a couple things for myself and the wife.  Well, they went out and got shirts, and wore them to the game!  There aren’t too many things cooler or more appreciated than that.

Thanks Armand and Christa, you guys rule!

Just NEVER show up wearing THIS!

    My Ask Rory

    As heard on Mondays...

I sent these to Rory minutes apart...

    Dear Ask Rory,

Ok Mr. Know It All, I'm in a mite bit of trouble here.  I was visiting
grandma at the hospital this afternoon, and I noticed one of her life
support machines looks like it's running Windows 2000.  First, the
geek in me said, "wow, that's pretty cool, grandma has 'Intel
Inside'".  Then the geek in me said, "hmmm, let's take a look…" so I
unplugged it and used my trusty Swiss Army Cyber Tool to take the
thing apart.  Wow there sure were a lot of parts in there.  I couldn't
find a CPU or a hard drive or a cooling fan or anything, and grandma's
colour started to look a little funny, so I figured I should put the
thing back together and plug it back in.
Here's the part where you come in, I got *most* of it back together,
but there were a few pulleys and springs and stuff I can't remember
where they go!  I tried plugging it in anyways, but the screen is
blank, it's making a high pitched squealing sound and started to
smoke.  I unplugged it again and was able to get the pulley and a few
more screws in, but now there are other parts that won't fit in
either!  Her breathing is sounding a little funny, please advice?  Dan

    Dear Ask Rory,

Ok more trouble, now the other machines are starting to beep too, so I
unplugged some of them.  I had another go at the springs, and I got
most of them.  By the way, do you know of any ways I can solder
without actually having a soldering iron?  Anything?  Oh, and do you
know anything about those funny little paddle things you see on the TV
shows?  I tried to get them to work but only managed to shock myself,
so I'm taking them apart now to try to fix *them* too.  Shit, more
beeping, gotta run, please advice… Dan K

    Dear Ask Rory,

Still having a little problem here with the machines, where they hell
are you?  I think the paddles are broken for good now, so I tried to
flush them.  Know anything about plumbing?  Every time I flush, the
paddles sparkle and the lights dim a bit.  Probably a bad pump or pipe
or something?  Well forget about that, now it looks like grandma is
turning a shade of blue, any suggestions?  Also, how are you making
out with that soldering help?  I tried Google, but came up empty.  Oh
more beeping, so now pretty much everything is unplugged except the
lights and my laptop…  Gotta run, grandma's starting to twitch…  Dan K

    Dear Ask Rory,

What do you know about barricades?  There was some more beeping, seems
I missed one pesky machine on the other wall, and now people are
knocking on the door outside.  I need to get this fixed QUICK!  I have
grandma's bed and the chairs all against the door, but every time they
slam into the door from the outside, everything shifts on the pile.
She's starting to twitch pretty something awful, she might end up
shaking the chairs and stuff I piled on her right back off.  Also
she's making some pretty nasty sounds, so if you can't get back to me
soon, I think we can just forget it.    Dan K

    Dear Ask Rory,

Um never mind, forget it, Dan K
