so I finished my 30 days of hell. easy enough. Time to quit sodas (yeah I know... I was supposed to have started that already but y'know... whatever. ) so consider this the beginning of 30 days of hell, part 2.

30 days of hell: day 7-12

I guess the title is misleading at this point. The first few days weren't that easy, but since then it's been pretty effortless. The blood sugars are still in check, the fried foods haven't creeped back into my diet.

I've been eating special K (fruit & yogurt) for breakfast most days, or a banana and cup of yogurt. Some days when I wake up really hungry, I have all three. Considering how I used to eat, I'm still doing ok. Lunch and dinner typically consists of tuna salad (with apples and pickles sliced up in it) or something grilled. I do want the occasional burger, but I avoid the fast food ones and go for a lean, grilled burger.

I'm still drinking too many sodas, though I have cut down a bit. That's when the real hell will start. 18 more days... phase 3, no more sodas. I've been drinking a lot more water (1-2 gallons a day), to better prepare myself for the transition, but I still drink at least 8-10 sodas a day. some days more.

30 days of hell: day 4 - 6

Amazingly, I've been adhering to my plan. I've eaten a hell of a lot of tuna and grilled food. I've probably also had a little too much soda along the way, but that's ok for now.

For the most part, it's been pretty easy. The hardest part is actually making myself think about what I'm fixing or ordering. I'm so used to ordering junk that I instinctively look at that stuff first and then have to remind myself that I'm not eating deep fried cheese or breaded popcorn shrimp, etc... *sigh* I do love that stuff.

Tonight, I'm eating popcorn and a tuna sandwich. (Popcorn because I'm watching 300 for the 5th(?) time.)

FWIW, I haven't weighed in since I started. I know I *feel* better, but I don't think I've lost any weight yet. we'll see.

30 days of hell: day 2 and a half

So day two of my 30 days of hell started a little rocky. I went to Sonic for breakfast and started to order without even thinking about it and then realized "holy crap... I can't eat most of this junk."

After studying the menu for a minute or two, I found something that fit within my requirements. A ham & cheese breakfast burrito and a cranberry juice. Sadly, no tots for me.

Lunch was easier, opting for a microwaveable turkey pot pie.

I ate dinner at home after the user group: a loaded tuna salad sandwich. (loaded means with chopped up apples and pickles in the tuna salad. yum.)

So now I'm on day 3, and so far I've had half of a loaded tuna salad sandwich on whole grain... and a diet pepsi.

Lunch is looking a lot like turkey pot pie again. good thing I like them.

I might grill tonight. mmm steak.

30 days of hell - day 1

As part of my efforts to get my lazy ass back into shape, the first thing I did was get my blood sugars under control. That took a little over a week to get them back to where they should be.

The good news, I'm through that.

The problem with dropping 300+ points of blood sugar is that even though you're actually much closer to where you should be, you feel like complete hell while you're body readjusts to the new level. Basically it feels like you've been hit by a slow moving truck that takes a week to completely run over you.
So, moving on. Step 2 is to cut out ALL fried foods for 30 days. I'm not going to nitpick over cholesterol and triglycerides and all that crap. I'm just going to cut out everything fried. No french fries, chicken tenders, onion rings, etc... anything breaded, golden brown and dripping is off the menu. no fast food burgers either. If I can't grill it, bake it or eat it raw, then I'm gonna have to live without it for a month (hopefully longer, but I'm shooting for a month.)

No point putting this off, so today is day one. I had a croissant with a slice of ham and a slice of cheese for breakfast. For lunch, a grilled chicken sandwich on wheat. For dinner, I dunno yet but I suspect it will involve the big pineapple in my kitchen. Maybe a grilled steak or chicken breast too.

I'm going to try to post everyday, but my track record indicates I probably won't. I'll post periodically.

I hope this helps, I'm tired of feeling like complete hell everyday. I don't smoke, I rarely drink, so hopefully this won't be an insurmountable challenge.

(P.S. as part of my sugar control, the only sodas I'm drinking are diet, but after 30 days of no fried foods, sodas are next.... I figure if I eliminate one thing at a time.. and keep the previous things off... it will hopefully be easier than trying to drop everything at once.)
