Chris G. Williams Beware: I mix tech and personal interests here.
The Midwest Robotics League is having their first competition of the new season this Saturday at Dunwoody College of Technology in Minneapolis, MN.

It's not quite as hyped and polished as the old BattleBots (Robot Wars) TV show, but it's still a good bit of fun to watch.

The kid leagues (Middle School and High School) are doing 15 pound robots, but there's a 120 pound class also, so you might see some pretty impressive damage.

I'm not actively participating this year but I'm planning on hitting most of the meetings and events to get a good feel (and headstart for next year.)  One thing I do know already, those things are expensive! It's $500-$1000 for a 15 pound bot, and easily $3000 for the 120 pound bot.  The big ones you see on TV can run upwards of $25,000 or more...

Anyway, if you (or your kids) are into this sort of thing, and live in the Twin Cities area, definitely come check it out.
