I got a Zune for Christmas, from my employer. Here are a few reasons I hate it.

#5 - It's really cool looking, and people keep wanting to touch it.

#4 - It holds WAY more music than I can possibly listen to. I've downloaded everything in sight and it's still not full.

#3 - My Zune Pass gives me way too many choices. There's so much stuff on there I just can't download it all fast enough.

#2 - The video screen is so big, when I'm travelling, other people keep looking at it to see what I'm watching.

and the #1 reason I hate my Zune...

The sound is so good it drowns out everything around me. I miss phone calls, conversations, etc...

You like yours? Wow, that's a surprise. Given the negative reviews, I've been reluctant to seriously consider one. If you like it, however, must be pretty good....much better than I've read, in any event.

Yeah well mine is cool looking and people keep wanting to touch it too...although I didn't call mine "Zune", and my employer sure didn't name it.

Um...what are we talkinga about again?

The Zune is dope. Don't believe all the negativity!

# re: 5 reasons I hate my Zune 1/4/2007 1:04 PM Heartless
ROFL @ the other night when "you know who" tried to pick it up. Classic.

What I've found is that I can't tell much of a difference between the higher end music players. I do like the bigger screen on my zune and the dpad (vs the touchpad wierdness on the Creative Zen Vision:M).

I found out this morning that I now hate mine because my children have discoverd Weird Al Yankovich (Thanks a lot, Marketplace. Curse you subscription!). Hearing 'Eat It' four times on the way to dropping them off at school was a tad bit much to face before my first Starbucks.

Why I hate my Zune:

5.) It holds way too many movies, causing me to convert already seen movies just so I can watch them while "trying" to go to sleep.

4.) KidzBop -- nuff said

3.) My kids discovered you can "listen" to dvd's in the car instead of music.

2.) It attracts too much attention. I can't walk in a place, headphones in ears and such and just enjoy my music without someone asking "what is that..." or "can I see..."

1.) Crazy Frog is available on the Zune subscription and my kids no this........

not a cent

# re: 5 reasons I hate my Zune 5/6/2007 9:56 AM primecutbeef
I just ordered one today and I'm hesitant because of the negative reviews. How can people say that the zune sucks if it's basically an ipod with more stuff?

# re: 5 reasons I hate my Zune 5/8/2007 11:12 PM monty
I'm thinking about buying one. They look freaking awesome (brown), but my one concern is the searching. When you have a few songs it's fine to press the button a couple of times to get to the disired song, but what about when you have thousands of songs? Will you have to press the button 692 times to get to the song you want, or is there and easier way?

IN NO WAY AM I DISSING ON THE ZUNE, i kinda like it. My problem is that i don't know much about it so if someone could fill me in. PLEASE.

Eh, Im sticking with my ipod, because it kicks ass.

# re: 5 reasons I hate my Zune 8/20/2007 5:58 AM yrmomismywhore
Ya how you like that touch sensitive click wheel and nice hard metal case of your Zune?
Oh thats right Zune is cheep-o plastic and fake push button wanna be click wheel

Well then how do you like running linux and playing games like ines and iDoom and all the other game *.wads on your Zune?
What you say, you cant do that OMG..

How about change the theme on your Zune and not just the background image....
Ipod wizard can and there are hundreds of themes to download for your iPod.

Five real reasons to hate zune.

1. the case is like a 1980's plastic TV remote control.

2.no touch sensitive click wheel.

3. no games for them long trips

4.no themes besides a background picture change

5. no linux or rockbox and no mods

If your one of the ten people that actually bought a Zune you should return it as fast as you can and get a real MP3 player.
If you say you like Zune you probably never had a iPod.

# re: 5 reasons I hate my Zune 8/25/2007 1:17 AM iglowblueinthedark
It looks like 'me' is the right one here... the 80's rocked. The click wheel blows ass. If i want to play games i will use my psp. The zune theme can be changed. Rockbox is hardly even usable in its current state. I have a 20 gig ipod and i still want a zune.

# re: 5 reasons I hate my Zune 12/10/2007 5:01 PM Gene
Just bought a Zune (2 weeks old)

You cannot see the BIGGGG screen outdoors.

The volume does not get loud enough on most songs.

The supplied ear phones are trash.

Does not come with a charger. You have to hook it to a live USB This is a laptop problem if you top goes off after so many minutes.

The only reason it gets hours of use is because the screen has a default to go of in 15 seconds.

The Main screen is a black and white. What happen to color.

The FM radio sound is normal. The Screen is a simple a boring black and white.

The equalizer has to be set after clicking through till you get to setting click music. So, say your listening to music you have to click about 4 to 5 times to change the equalizer. (sad but true).

The software is very very very poor. It is almost like driving your car with one eye covered. Very un-stable like.Sometimes it recognizes my Zune, Sometimes not.

I have a zune30 and i hate it. biggest waste of money ever. If the zune is so great then answer these questions so I can bask in the awesomeness as well. How the hell do you create a playlist? It lets me on my software, but never syncs to my zune. How the hell do you put videos on there? I tried every yahoo answer, but none of them knew what the hell they were talking about. My videos ARE in the correct format, but still no sync. I'm not trying to be negative, but when something says it is suppose to do something and then it doesn't it becomes hard to sing it's praises. If any one can help i would be most thankful.

# re: 5 reasons I hate my Zune 2/4/2008 7:41 PM Blogus Maximus
Well, I'm sorry you hate it. I like mine and haven't experienced the problems you mention. You do realize this isn't the Microsoft support site, right? Thanks for stopping by.

# re: 5 reasons I hate my Zune 4/12/2008 4:20 AM polo79
anyone that doesn't know how to put videos/playlists on their mp3 player doesn't need to be giving out their judgments.

lol, awesome post

# re: 5 reasons I hate my Zune 6/12/2008 7:02 PM SaaFaa
Its a piece of awful.
Enough said.
Sorry. But it converts terribly.
And only WMV..?
Come on.
I had an Ipod stolen so I got it
And I seriously hate it so much. The things you talked about make sense...but it screws up my computer and I see no logic in the way.
I'm seriously putting videos on it now and its not working. Like I really don't get the whole "lets all bask in the glory of our Zunes" thing. Like I seriously don't get it.

# re: 5 reasons I hate my Zune 8/15/2008 6:36 PM tim

# re: 5 reasons I hate my Zune 9/4/2008 3:00 PM dissatisfied
I actually dont like my zune, it frustrates me to no end but not for stupid reasons like not having a touch sensitive wheel, games (after all it is an mp3 player and I didnt buy it for the games), and bad headphones (go buy real ones, obviously.) But a few things bother me:

#1. no sleep timer.

something I really use an mp3 player a lot for is trying to go to sleep, and if theres no timer to turn it off, its likely to loose a lot of battery power.

#2. the volume is not loud enough.

#3. you can play the zune music when its hooked up through the USB... i would have thought that was an obvious thing. i can understand not being able to transfer the music.. but playback should be allowed.

#4. the software works... now. on my other computer it would take me an hour just to upload a few songs.

But I'd take a Zune over the ipod any day.

I love love love my 80s remote, non-click-wheel-having, EQless, gameless, plain-radio-faced Zune.

@ yrmomismywhore-

&& I have had several iPods, and far prefer the Zune.

# re: 5 reasons I hate my Zune 9/19/2008 3:40 PM benzie
well i got a zune of of ebay and your just trying to be funny
you sound like a loser because those are dumb reasons to not like a zune who cares if people look @ your screen, who cares if you cant here your phone ring leave one headphone out,and who cares if theres to much room why do you care

# re: 5 reasons I hate my Zune 9/22/2008 9:18 PM joe lyons
mine is a fuckin piece of shit that always freezes and says it cant find the music i downloaded. I want to throw it at a fuckin wall and blow up microsoft

# re: 5 reasons I hate my Zune 10/23/2008 11:11 PM Tina
I liked some of the features, but it froze all the time, a full 75% of the time I played it. I had to reload albums constantly. It finally froze so bad no amount of restarting would fix it. I smashed it with a baseball bat and it felt so good. I can't wait to go buy a new ipod.

# re: 5 reasons I hate my Zune 10/30/2008 2:44 PM Steve
I bought an 8gb Zune 5 months ago. I thought it was awesome. Then last week the screen stopped working. It just went black. The back light functions, but the screen is just black. It's not very awesome anymore. I've tried resetting and all the other 'fixes' but it's broke. The worst is I treated the thing like a baby...case protector, didn't drop it, etc. Anyway, now I guess I'll try to send it MS and get a crusty refurbished one in exchange. Maybe it was just my bad luck, but it's disappointing.

I, personally, love my zune.

At first I had a black 30 gig, and it gave me no problems. Until I dropped it into a lake that is.

Long story.

Anyways, my 30 gig was pretty much done for after having been submerged underwater for a good couple of minutes before I was able to get it out, so I went ahead and bought an ipod.

I can't tell you how uncomfortable I was with an ipod.

So yeah, I had that ipod for a good year until I saw an advertisement in the newspaper for an 80 gig zune for $125 at an after thanksgiving day sale at toys'r'us, and went ahead and bought it without a second thought.

And I'm glad that I did.

I've had my 80 gig for about a year now, and things have been problem free thus far. I really love being able to use the touch pad for scrolling through music and pictures faster, and having the extra 50 gigs of memory doesn't hurt much either :)

All in all I'd say that a zune is worth the money.

It's just as good as an ipod, but with double the memory for half the price :)

# re: 5 reasons I hate my Zune 11/3/2008 1:55 PM lauren
lol i guess its true but i still love it, i only have a problem with people asking what it is then asking if they can hold it then to turn the volume way up or if they move their thumb on the non touch pad and for me to remind them "you have to click down on it" and i guess the volume could be louder lol

# re: 5 reasons I hate my Zune 11/11/2008 8:13 PM zunowner
zune software sucks sucks sucks. i imagine the conversation at microsoft went like this - "maybe we could let the zune work with mediaplayer?" "what? how are we going to frustrate and piss people off that way?" "i just thought that since everybody and their mother knows how to use mediaplayer and its on everyones computers anyway..." "NO! No mediaplayer! we want people to get upset when the software syncs all the music when you start the program. we want people to have to update even if they dont want to. we, the all powerful, digital gods of the microsoft, command that the zune only work with sub-standard software!" i own a zune and i like the unit itself. but the software could have at least been decent. why couldnt they just let it work with mediaplayer? can anyone answer that for me?

ZUNES are cool.... all you haters out there SUCK

# re: 5 reasons I hate my Zune 12/24/2008 11:31 AM lawlerskates
lolwut.

The zune exhibits none of these problems. If the ipod fan-boys, you know who you are, would get off your high horse and realize that, just a couple of gens in, the Zune is already quite comprable, and in many aspects better than the ipod which is of course in what? It's sixth gen? I apologize that you just cannot see that the zune is a glorious piece of work that deserves its due. It has made an impressive showing and is a breeze to use as well as having an unmistakable style. I love my zune. I do think that ipods are decent, I just prefer the style of the zune. I am just glad to see someone giving them a run for their money.

TLDR;
My zune looks cooler than your epood.

also, dongs.

lol. Great article.
I got a Zune (8g) for Christmas.
My brother has a regular ipod (big one) and my sister has a nano. I was going to ask for an Ipod but my sister suggested to get a Zune (not because she didn't like her Ipod, just because she wanted to check out the Zune)
So I asked for a Zune, and got it.
Right of the bat it was very nice looking and very solid feeling (who said that they were like cheap plastic? Must be the old ones...) I got a blackish-grey one. Searching through the menu was an experience. Though is doesn't have a touch wheel (which I don't know why seems to be such a must have thing) it has a touch sensitive up/down scroll, which is cool enough for me, and makes scrolling up and down menus and songs a breeze. And this may sound weird, but I actually like the manual click. Don't know why, just do.. My brother and sister thought it was pretty cool too, and my older brother think he will probably get one, since his current Ipod is pretty out of date. I can see why you like it, Blogus, becuase so far, no snares (other than the "Can't find Microsft Update error, which wasn't really a problem) and it is pretty pimp with its "features" (custom backround is soooo pro and wifi is cool, too). I'm just excited to hear that some of my friends happened to get them, too. I'm curious to see what kind of music they listen to. (I seriously have no clue, hopefully they leave wifi share on :D)
Well, that's my -limited- experience with one. I suggest checking out a friends then making judgments, because they seriously aren't bad, despite what so many people have told me. Just wanted to say that I like mine, too.

# re: 5 reasons I hate my Zune 1/6/2009 2:00 AM Shinto
-wifi sharing songs that only lasts for 2 days? weak.
-DRM laiden songs? weak.
-Zune looking better than an iPod? you must be blind a zune is an iPod clone.
-Inferior Software integration? weak.

so far it has more weakness than its counter part. Why would I want a piece of junk just to be different? This makes you a fool or a masochist for choosing an inferior product for the sake of being different. I would rather be different while still picking the right choices. iPod or not.

P.S. if nobody is a hater. then there will be no Zune since no one will be hating the iPod for the same stupid reasons.

# re: 5 reasons I hate my Zune 1/14/2009 9:46 PM Faygo19
If you think the sound sucks buy a real pair of headphones due to the fact that no mp3 player gives you decent headphones. Second Wifi what? i don't think ipods had that until Zune put it on yeah way to follow. Next radio....oh wheres that on an ipod...I think its some extra you buy for 50 bucks....Oh and if you don't like the background sorry down load a pic and set it as your background not like you are away from the computer ever. Oh and what other MP3 player gives you a wall charger with their mp3 player? Not sure i have seen one. Oh and just hook you ipod up to a nice game system like your apple box and upload all your songs too it. Oh wait you can't do that because apple make a computer back in the 70's and then they make one button mice for their linux junk. Thank god the apple guy invested in PIXAR or the ipod wouldn't even be around today. Oh and I buy ipods because everyone else owns one freal

# re: 5 reasons I hate my Zune 3/14/2009 9:20 PM jkl;
I love my zune, it has had games as of Dec.08, if you need to set the volume over 20 you are def or your music is way to low, and making playlists are really easy you just have to drag-and-drop. Also Ipod is a lot older than Zune and has had more time to perfect it. Zune is more geared to music lovers who like to share their music.

# re: 5 reasons I hate my Zune 3/28/2009 5:05 PM Jason Grady
So this is the best forum I could think of to let people know how not to get screwed. I bought a 80 GB zune player a year ago and recently installed the new software and my zune player began to freeze so I tried resetting it and reinstalling the software etc... and now the screen went black but it still lights up so I called Microsoft/Zune about this problem I have been having since the software update and explained my situation and the only think that I was given was a "You may send your device in and we will replace it for $160 dollars because the warranty has run out". Why not repair it so I don't have to sell an arm and a leg to get something I have already paid for once. I could purchase a brand new 120 GB for $220 off of amazon for $60 more dollars I could have a new one with a bigger hard drive and a one year warranty to go along with it. This is a little ridiculous and unfair so I guess what i'm trying to get at is don't fall for Microsoft scam and be ripped off. I guess there is only a few options for me now I can post fourms and blogs and complain and maybe Microsoft will listen. I could get another zune player or replace my old one or I could just say "screw it" and cancel my subscription to the zune marketplace and buy an apple. Will see how this plays out.

Thanks,
Jason

If you think my blog is the best forum for you to complain about Microsoft or their products, you're sadly mistaken. I'm not an official Microsoft Forum, and I can't get your Zune fixed or replaced. If you're looking for a blog to complain on, maybe you should consider starting your own.
