Ok so we have these email lists at work and I sorta fell into the middle of a conversation and learned that The Doors toured recently (without Jim Morrison, naturally) and after a brief moment of silence I started thinking about other bands that have committed (or attempted to commit) lead singer sacrilege. Does this ever turn out well?
It's kinda like Pink Floyd without Roger Waters, The Misfits without Glenn, Queen without Freddy Mercury, Rage Against the Machine without Zach. It's not the same, it's (typically) not as good and, I dunno... it's just not right.
Ahh, I can hear you say, “but what about bands that actually improved after changing singers??” Hmm, like who? Van Halen? Ok, sure Sammy was good, but better than Diamond Dave? hmmm I dunno. AC/DC? Ok yeah, no question there but Brian Johnson has been a part of things so long it's easy to forget about... uhh... what was his name? Oh and how about Skid Row? (Sorry, I've been watching SuperBand on VH1... did you know Sebastian Bach *snicker* wasn't the bands original singer?)
As one guy pointed out, it's like Captain Kangeroo without Mr. Greenjeans. You can watch it, you might even enjoy it, but you know it's not right.
