Sometimes I wish I had the wisdom and power to effectively communicate my thoughts and my feelings in a more direct and exact manner. Sometimes you have something you know and understand to be true and this knowledge is so powerful that you would be committing a sin by not telling others about it. That's the case for many religions. The people of that faith, care so much about their religion and in turn you that they would not be a friend or a decent human being if they did not share such a powerful message with the people in their life.
That is how I feel about this video released by the Dove Self-Esteem campaign.
Really, what have we become? I've always known our sense of beauty was being warped to some degree, but I had no idea it was like this. I honestly just didn't know. What are we doing to ourselves? What damage are we doing to our kids and our relationships when we are fed a reality that just doesn't exist? I am truly saddened. Here is one area of technology that I as a geek just am not proud of. I am ashamed.
The hardest thing for me is now that I know that the reality of beauty is being warped to such a high degree, what can I do about it? What can any of us do? I feel this is wrong on so many levels, but what can be done to change it? Spreading the knowledge about it is being done. Dove is doing an amazing job tackling this issue, but how do we stop it?
And how twisted have we already become without knowing it. Just how messed up am I?
