Make Google your friend

I know I'm preaching to the choir here at GWB, but am I wrong in this? I mean before you ask a friend, co-worker or join a forum to post a question, don't you think it might be a good idea to do a little work on your own first to get your answer?

Was I out of line here?

[Edit: Well, looks like they finally deleted the thread that I was linking to so the links above no longer work. Luckily, I had taken a screenshot of the thread for just such an eventuality, so you can see what I was talking about by looking here.]

Not everybody solves problems the same way. Sometimes you spend so much time trying to solve a problem that you miss the obvious answer. Now granted this guy probably could have done a bit more reseach on his own, but I think you should treat people on the internet like your grandma and I wouldn't ever make my grandma feel stupid for not using Google.

Well, I thought it was quite funny... what I found even funnier is that typing "rar" into the address bar of IE takes you to search results where every result listed in my full screen browser on a 21" tft is a link to WinRAR in some way.

As well as this, and somewhat proving another unrelated issue that should not be discussed here, typing rar into the address bar in firefox (1.5.0.6) actually takes you straight to the rarlabs website...

On another subject, in your response to the google virgin, I found your repeated links to google very amusing, adding to the humour of the post. However, in you blog post it just annoyed me.... ;o)

lol,

ok, ok. reading over it, i have to admit, i do sound like a total ass.

i still think the guy could have taken the time to look it up on google (and if my grandma had posted in a DirectX forum, i actually probably would have mocked her too Tim, so I can't follow that rule you use ;) ).

i did at least actually answer the guys question, but i guess i maybe should have done it a bit nicer.

pretty sure that i took my frustrations out on the poor guy i'll never meet as a result of being hammered all week long by the same type of questions from my co-workers.

so although funny, i guess it wasn't fair that i used him like a stress squeeze toy.

i humbly accept the *whap*

lol, but i am glad I made Trisha and Carl laugh ;)

Hilarious if you ask me. Now, perhaps if you're somewhere and somenoe who isn't very tech. savvy asks you something like this...you're nice to them. However, once has to wonder how he/she/it got to the DirectX forum on MSDN if not for google or a search engine.

Hilarious *and* warranted.

Cheers :O
