I didn't really think of the connection until I read this post from the Oak Leaf folks...

dBase, then Clipper (from Nantucket) was my first development environment on the PC.  That was quite sometime ago. Ashton Tate was a huge presence in the market and these were really productive environments.

With LINQ, as the post points out, you get very similar syntax to what FoxPro (dBase, et.al.) had (or do they still have it?  is FoxPro still around :)...

Now I'm sure purists will scold Microsoft on this.  I'm honestly on the fence with it.  As with VB6 providing a cheap, simple, accessible environment to the masses, LINQ will also present a cheap, simple, accessible environment.  So, are we creating the next generation of goop that takes years to cleanup? 

I can't say it enough, physics still rules everything we do.  Although Knuth was said "premature optimization is the root of all evil" - I'm quite wary of something that abstracts too far away, although we do have alternate paths for optimization...
