Why Limited NY/NJ Metro Code Camps

Code Camp Schedule.

For being the most populated region in the country, it never ceases to amaze me the limited communal aspect of developers and things like code camps.  It seems as if the NY/NJ metro region falls short in both hosting and providing .NET related conferences, etc.

Honestly, coming from the state where the lightbulb was invented, AT&T labs, and all the high-tech over the years, It’s amazing.

It’s time to start looking to move….  Preferably to a warmer climate.

I can answer this one. Space! That is the biggest problem. I tried to get someone, anyone, to donate space for 400 people for a joint .Net & Java Code Camp, and I could not get one college or tech school to donate the space. The NJ and NYC offices can not hold 400 people, and I tried ever local community college, state college, and only one private college was willing to even talk. Eventually that private college nixed the idea, and want $5000 for the space. Our biggest asset (the total number of developers) is our biggest problem. There are just too many people that want to go to these events.

Oh, the next NJ Code Camp is June 3rd. It is on the NJ Code Camp site, but we haven't promoted it yet.
