Blackjack II Hardware Button Disable, Remove or Remap Internet, MediaNet and CellularVideo buttons with WM 6.1

If you are a BlackJack II user you are familiar with two buttons at the bottom of your keyboard next to caps/shirt. And you most likely are familiar with hitting those two buttons while typing or by accident. Both start apps and 3G connections, which I have to go disconnect from to not waste battery, as well as the app itself that the button lunched through task manager.

I wanted this “feature” gone for so long.

It’s easier then ever to do so, once you update to WM 6.1 [which is amazing btw! no GPS unlock needed anymore either].

Step 0 - You can get the WM 6.1 update is now available here!

This is a bit tricky. Put on your geek hat!

Download and install Total Commander for Smartphone: http://www.ghisler.com/smartphone.htm

Download SDA Unlock Application: http://www.gpcarreon.com/SDA_ApplicationUnlock.zip

Step 1. Run the SDA Unlock with a docked phone. This will app unlock the phone. You must do this first.

Step 2. Open the TCommander program on the BJII, navigate to \Windows directory, find “MediaNet.lnk” or “CellularVideo.lnk” and select File > Edit

Step 3. Now in which ever, or both files, simply misspelling .exe to .exee would make the buttons stop workings immediately after you Save the file. This is same format as any other WM link just like the ones inside Programs list, so you can map those to what ever website with IE or app.

Or, if you rather do this edit on the PC, after you do the SDA unlock, follow these steps:

For those of you that have upgraded to WM6.1, it is now much easier to re-map these two buttons. You no longer need the programs that I previously posted. I have only gotten this to work from my XP machine:

  1. Copy MediaNet.lnk and CellularVideo.lnk from the \Windows directory to your desktop
  2. Open a command prompt
  3. Use attrib to remove the system, hidden, and read only attributes (attrib +a -s -h -r MediaNet.lnk)
  4. Edit the files in Notepad to point to whatever file or website you want
  5. Copy the files back to your BJII

Windows Vista TIP: When you have the folder open. Press the Alt key and go to Tools -> Folder Options. Under the View tab uncheck the "Hide protected operating system files" option.
