T-Mobile MDA [HTC Wizard] Hard-Rest Button Combo for the helpless

For those of you that are as lucky as me to have this device you might want to know how to hard reset it when in an unfortunate event you can no longer boot up the phone to do it from the Settings menu.

Here is how to hard-reset your MDA/Wizard using a key combo - courtesy of a smart T-Mobile tech support help desk guy who wrote a note about it as it's not in official help doc's:

1. Simultaneously hold down the Communication Manager and Voice Dial buttons and put the Soft Reset 'button' with the stylus tip - all at the same time.

2. You see a very scary looking black screen with white letters in System font reading something along the lines of “Are You Sure? Press Send key to continue.”

3. When you push the 'Send' key, the Green pick-up the phone key process starts

4. Next you will see what made me smile like a kid - Formatting FAT partition and very briefly in matter of few seconds began normal first boot.

Hope this help those of you who already began thinking about how long will it take to get a new replacement phone and exactly how hard would you have to convince the sales manager and expalin to him/her what happened to your phone, like I already have before I called techsupport.

BTW, here are two links to reviews of T-Mobile MDA - better one and another one.

I tried, and it didn't work for me either. May be he is talking wrong combination, or missing a step. I have heard about some thing similar, but, can't recall.

It works.. here is how.
1. Keep pressing Comm manager and Voice Command button
2. While they are pressed, push in on the soft reset button (reset hole) once
3. Keep holding the Comm Manager and Voice Command buttons until there is a screen asking you if you want to clear all data.
4. To commit, press the green send key.
I just did it on mine.

I got a MDA which has the call receive, disconnect and all keypad(keyboard) buttons inactive.
It boots ok, but the keypad lights are always on and dont take any input.
I tried to reinstall the rom, but as the send key doesn't work,I can make it reinstall/hard reset.
It recieved a call, had talk and then this problem started. Water and anyother kind of damage was NOT done. It was used with care.
I will be gratefull if anyone can tell me what is wrong and what to do?
Bye
Tuhin

The secret to keeping these MDA phones stable is to KEEP IT SIMPLE and NOT INSTALL third-party apps. Of course, then these phones are lame. So you gotta trade!
