Mobility Roadshow for .NET CF - east coast usa

Posted on 5/1/2008 12:13:46 PM

Dani Diaz, Glen Gordon, and myself(Joe Healy) are making an East Coast run of the Mobility Roadshow.  We'll be teaching about the .NET Compact Framework 3.5 and using VS2008 to develop Windows Mobile SmartClient Applications. So join us for a full day of programming for Windows Mobile.

One note, lots of folks like to sign up for the classes with fake emails and fake phone numbers. We had to change the dates on two of these. If you sign up with fake emails and phone numbers we have no way of getting in touch with you.

Overview
This session is geared towards familiarizing the attendee with developing smart clients using the .NET Compact Framework 3.5 on Windows Mobile 6.x. Labs will be by demo only (not hands on), and will be available for download after the class. Lunch will be provided. Class times: 9:00 AM–12:00 PM, 1:00 PM–5:00 PM.

Topics

  • Intro to Win Mobile
  • Tools: Intro/SDK/Emulators/VS2008/Debug/Deploy Debug/Deploy
  • Managed Code: NET CF Managed APIs
  • Data Guidance

]inbetween[ - Microsoft Commmunity Summit 2008 - June 7 and 8 - Orlando, FL

So what is it?  Basically, the Florida User Group Communities were asked what would they do with the Orlando Convention Center for a weekend?  What they came up with was a FREE weekend with loads with loads of great content.

A few people and I are also in charge of OpenSpace; I will be at the registration table all day.

OpenSpace

OpenSpace in a few words is - huge area to give a presentation and have a group discussion.

We have 4 full presentations spaces and lots of group tables - check out the Floor Map of the space.

It's a place to sit down and talk to a group of peers in a relaxed environment. It's where the track speakers go after presentations.

Speakering schedule is udpated live, as speakers sing up. There will be a twitter feed to keep you posted during the event.

100% informal, 100% open to everyone, 100% relaxed.

Sunday was a prep day at the US Imagine Cup US Finals.

Top Software Design [SDI] teams from all over US are gathered in Los Angeles, CA for the next few days to show case their creations.

Sunday we had the SDI teams do some dry runs and had a chance to hear first hand commentary from a panel on the presentations and content.

One of the presentations for students was given by Philip DesAutels and earlier one of the panelists mentioned Guy Kawasaki's Presentation skills 10/20/30 Article, a great read if you are ever doing presentations.

Stay tuned for the next few days for more content from the event.

no really. I did. Go to 0:58 of the 2nd MIX08 keynote to see me ask the question and see Steve's response: http://www.visitmix.com/blogs/News/Watch-Steve-Ballmer-and-Guy-Kawasaki-Live/

[Update: A fellow Ch8er - Ivana Tilca -  has excert of the video with my question here. ]

Ch8 got up a post about me regarding this: http://channel8.msdn.com/Posts/3656/

So, yes, I was the student at MIX08 at second keynote with Steve Baller and Guy Kawasaki that asked Steve about they future efforts in academia and possibility of hosting and/or infrastructure for students.

But first, I got to thank him, well Microsoft, about efforts behind DreamSpark, Channel8 and Microsoft Student Partners.

Question was received with mixed reviews and there were even a few negative Twitter comments about those questions too ;) it's all good though. Because Ch8 is now on the map.

I was actually at MIX08 representing Ch8 and those 3 minutes of my life made the rest of the interviews a lot easier for me the rest of the conference, of course once all the speakers I wanted to talk to left or had other plans then sitting down for 3-5minutes with the best place to advocate their voice to the student developer community...

Watch Ch8 home page for the rest of my MIX08 videos coming up soon.

I have my first ever video up. It's a report from Day 1 at MIX08 conference.

This is a student take on MIX08 conference. More MIX08 content to come soon.

Watch it on Ch8 here:
